All fees are based on a 5 month period for a fall or spring semester.
Figures are estimates given by Host University. Figures were given in host currency and converted to
United States Dollars a floating exchange rate. As of 8/5/16 1 Japanese Yen (JPY) 0.0098267 (USD)
Accommodations and meals are given by the host university at 48,000 Yen/month.
Okayama University is easily accessible by bike, the university recommends purchasing a bike rather
than paying for public transportation.
Okayama University suggests book expenses at 10,000 yen for one semester.
International Health Insurance is required. The Global Emergency Coverage is the minimum. Private
health insurance is also accepted and recommended.
International students are required to participate in the Japanese National Health Insurance (NHI)
Program. The average monthly premium is approximately 1,600 yen. National Health Insurance
covers 70 percent of your medical expenses and you pay the remainder (30 percent). Students are
also encouraged to sign up for the university’s Accident Insurance program.
Personal expenses are budgeted for around 140,000 JPY per semester.
US citizens are exempt from visa fees.
Airfare is an estimated average price from over 5 different airlines. Dates ranged for five months for
the duration of the semester.

* Tuition and Fees are based on the Resident rate for 12 undergraduate credit hours at Wichita
State University. Students will pay their current tuition rate during the study abroad program
based on their residency and any specific college/department requirements such as the business
& engineering fees.
