PRE 2014-2016
Goal: By June 2016, all subgroups at Penny Road Elementary School will meet or exceed annual
learning targets in reading and math as measured by the EOG and EVAAS.
Key Process 1: All grade levels will engage students in learning using evidence-based instructional
strategies across the curriculum.
Measureable Process Checks:
1. The School Improvement Team will monitor student achievement data in Math, Reading and
Science, quarterly, through Universal Screenings and Benchmark Assessment Data.
2. The School Improvement Team will monitor the alignment of evidenced-based instructional
practices through the use of a walkthrough instrument each quarter.
Action Steps:
1. Teachers will use aligned instructional components throughout lesson plans.
a. Parts of Lesson Plan: Essential Questions, Activating Strategies, Engaging Mini Lessons,
Student Practice, Checking for Understanding
b. Essential Components: writing across the curriculum, technology integration,
differentiation, collaboration, higher order thinking, graphic organizers
Timeline: August 2014-June 2016
2. Teachers will develop and implement common grade level assessments and projects that focus
on Depth of Knowledge 3 and 4. Projects will incorporate the 4 C’s (critical thinking, creativity,
collaboration, and communication) and allow for students to assess themselves and others.

3. All grades and subjects will focus on Tier 2 vocabulary instruction
a. Color Coded Word Wall, Vocabulary Maps, Research Based Vocabulary Strategies
b. Aligning key vocabulary K-5 with definitions and using whole brain teaching strategies
Timeline: August 2014-June 2016
4. Math teachers in grades K-5 will implement an aligned mathematical problem-solving process
using model drawings, number bonds, and compensation strategies.
a. Use a 7 step problem solving process
b. Use model drawings as an aligned K-5 approach.

5. Instructional Coaches will meet weekly with PLTs and provide individual coaching cycles to
support classroom teachers in the implementation of vocabulary, model drawings, and lesson
plan components.
a. Increase the use of teacher to teacher to teacher walk throughs
b. PLTs set personal learning goals related to SIP action steps and focus on these areas for
walk throughs
c. Increase use of vertical PLTs
d. Continue use of staff meeting focus of sharing high impact strategies

Action Steps:
1. Intervention teachers that provide pull-out and in-class intervention will increase the use of
previewing content strategies so that 60% of instruction is spent previewing and 40% of
instruction is spent on remediation.
Timeline: August 2016-June 2017
2. Using multiple data points, students are assigned to enrichment and remediation clubs offered
through the Tier 2 and 3 interventions that are rigorous and tied to Power (critical) Standards.
Timeline: August 2014-June 2016.
3. Regular Education and Special Education teachers will collaborate to write IEP Goals that are
measured using benchmark and universal screening assessment data and power (critical)
standards.
Timeline: August 2014-June 2015
4. Teachers will help students track and monitor their own achievement data and write personal
learning goals.
Timeline: August 2016-June 2017
Goal: By June 2016, Penny Road Elementary will increase a safe and supportive school climate by
decreasing office referrals by at least 10% and increasing K-5 parent education events by 50%.
Key Process 1: The positive behavior support team will increase safety, attendance, and character
education by implementing a PBIS model.
Measureable Process Checks:
1. The PBIS Team will monitor behavior referral data monthly, tracking Below the Line and Bottom
Line behaviors.
Action Steps:
1. The PBIS team will develop and implement Tier 2 behavior interventions.
a. Implement a structured data tracking system with an easier system for recess and
cafeteria
b. Review Tier 2 behavior data at a monthly PLT
c. Implement a school wide check in check out system
Timeline: August 2014-June 2016
Key Process 2: The community relations team will increase parent events that focus on providing
education and support for families at Penny Road Elementary
Measureable Process Checks:
1. The community relations team will hold monthly parent outreach events that focus on
parent education and family support. At least two of these events will be held within
neighborhoods of targeted subgroups.
Action Steps:
1.
Provide monthly parent presentations on targeted instructional and behavioral strategies
a. Spotlights will be more K-5 focused than grade level focused and will target areas within
the school improvement plan
b. Two parent academies will be held in targeted subgroup neighborhoods
