March 25, 2015 SET-UP (Activate Prior Knowledge & Connect to Challenge Question) Noise level 0 • S-Sit and organize materials for the lesson… Get your journal and a sharpened pencil. • E-Examine and follow teacher’s directions… On your next blank page, write today’s date at the top. Title this page ~ Finding the volume of a composite figures and surface area of nets. • T-Take the challenge! Write the CQ in journal below the title: Challenge Question: What is the difference between total and lateral surface area? PRESENTATION Noise level 0 Composite figure How do you find the volume of a composite figure? PRESENTATION Noise level 0 Remember to Using the Volume Formula Look at your STAAR reference sheet. Remember: b= the base B= Area of the base PRESENTATION Noise level 0 Steps to calculate the Volume of a composite figure Step 1: Find the volume of the first figure Step 2: Find the volume of the second figure Step 3: Add the volumes together Learning Together Noise level 2 How long do we have to complete the activity: 35 mins What do we do? With a partner: Find the area of each composite shape shown. Make sure to label your work… name each shape, find the total volume of each shape, and then calculate the total surface area. PRESENTATION Noise level 0 Lateral vs. Total Surface Area of Nets Total surface area ~ the sum of the surface areas of all its faces. Lateral surface area ~ the sum of the surface areas of all its faces excluding the base(s) of the solid. Learning Together Noise level 2 How long do we have to complete the activity: 25 mins What do we do? With a partner: Find the lateral and total surface area of each net shown. Remember ~ Lateral is without the base(s) added, Total is all faces Wrap-up Noise level 0 W- Write homework assignment in planner (Complete the worksheet if you did not finish it in class, it is due at the beginning of class on Friday) R- Return materials and organize supplies A-Assess how well you worked in a group or individually Did I/we maintain operating standards? Did I/we work toward learning goals? Did I/we complete tasks? P- Praise one another for high quality work: Tickets for a “P” performance overall
