Read the passage from the story.
I promised Mom I’d write in this journal. She said, “Sarah, one day you
might like to remember your summer in Manchester, Tennessee.” Between you
and me, though, I’m not so sure.
Aunt Clara and Uncle Daniel are OK, but it’s very quiet in the country.
I miss Mom and Dad even though we regularly talk on the phone and e-mail
each other. I miss my friends, and I miss having takeout food. I miss all the
buildings and people—it’s just fields and hills here.
Aunt Clara, Uncle Daniel, and my cousin Ramón work a lot in their garden. They grow vegetables for the family and to sell at the community market.
Ramón says the whole family’s got green fingers. Their hands look all rough
and covered with dirt to me.
