gov profiles - Redbourn Infant and Nursery School

Redbourn Infant & Nursery School Governing Body
I am a Community Governor who has lived in the village for 30 years during which time
my 31 year old and 27 year old daughters passed through both infant and junior
schools.
Professionally I am a retired bank manager but currently a part time gardener looking
after the grounds of The Park Estate. My main interests revolve around family, racquet
sports played to a low standard and an allotment.
John Allen
I currently serve as Chair of the Resources Committee whose role is to both assist the
Head in ensuring that there are sufficient resources to provide an excellent education for
the children at the school and obtain best value for funds spent.
I have worked in the School Office for almost seven years and am the Clerk to the
Governors. I have particular responsibility for finance, budgeting and health and safety
and attend the Resources Committee.
I enjoy music and regularly accompany the children in assembly on the piano.
Amanda Bowran
I have been Headteacher at Redbourn Infant & Nursery School for almost three years.
My role on the Governing Body is as Headteacher Governor and I attend the Resources,
Curriculum and Children’s Centre Committees.
Jane Byrne
I have lived in Redbourn for the last 22 years and I am a Community Governor. My two
children attended both schools in Redbourn and are now in years 13 and 10
at Roundwood Park Secondary in Harpenden. They have very happy memories of their
early years education at school in Redbourn and this prepared them well for the step up
to secondary. My responsibilities include involvement with the Children's Centre and
Foundation Stage and I appreciate how important these early years of education are. I
am linked to the afternoon Nursery and enjoy spending time with them each week.
Fiona Collins
My husband and I run a small business importing plastic packaging machinery from
Germany based in Harefield, Middx. As well as being Co Sec and a Director I look after
the accounts.
Redbourn is a wonderful village to grow up in and I am delighted to be part of the
Governor team achieving the best we can for the young people in Redbourn.
I am an LEA governor with three children at the school - Sam (year 2), Oliver (year 1)
and Joe in Nursery.
I have a background in project management and policy development, mainly working for
Hertfordshire County Council's Children's Services department which means I keep
abreast of national and local legislation and policy affecting the school.
Wendy Evans
I am the chair of the Curriculum Committee which looks at what the children are
learning and how they are progressing. My link subjects are Humanities, RE and

getting to see what the children get up to and share in their learning.

Chris Glanvill
I've worked in financial services for approximately 20 years in finance and accounting
roles which leads me towards supporting resources and sponsorship activities on the
governing body.
I also tend to find my (somewhat repressed) compering abilities get called upon at both
school and other community events when other more accomplished speakers aren't
available.
I am a teacher in Reception and have been a staff governor since 2009. I am a member
of the Curriculum Committee.
Within school I am the Art and DT coordinator. This is my fourth year working at RINS,

Around my duties as a school governor, I also travel in to London for my day job –
advising companies on how to better manage their staff pension arrangements. I know,
it doesn’t sound all that exciting, does it?
I am an LEA Governor and have 4 grown up children, two of which attended RINS.
I was a community Mental Health Nurse for 37yrs. In more recent years I have worked
in the field of substance misuse and its impact on the life of mothers and their children.

My professional background has most certainly helped me in my role as PSHE and
Safeguarding governor. Whilst I have taken my role and responsibilities very seriously, I
have also had lots of fun going into the school every week, listening to children read,
helping on some great school trips and being involved with the school council. Finally I
have also supported the school in forging stronger links with the Junior School.
With some regrets, I will be standing down as a Governor next December, but will keep
some lovely memories of the children, the friendly staff team and parents that I have
met. And not least the Governing Body for their enthusiasm, support and all their
teasing!
I am Deputy Head and Inclusion Manager of the school. I currently teach in Year One
and have been at RINS for 6 years.
I am an Associate Governor and attend Resources and Curriculum Committees.

Each Governor brings a different set of skills and experience, which when combined as a
