Strive For Excellence

Strive For Excellence Welcome to Fraternity of One. As Fo1 family members we cherish the opportunity to serve you and the community. We hope you experience our heart through our thoughts, words and most importantly our actions. “Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as if working for our Father (the Lord), not (just) for the people.” Fo1 Moment: Ask the players to answer the following questions: What are some of their goals and how will they go about achieving them? What does excellence mean? (high ranking, high quality, character, superior in quality, virtuous, outstanding, remarkably good, worthy, admirable) Ask parents or another Coach to share an example of something that is excellent and what it may take in terms of effort to achieve excellence. (You may pick out a parent ahead of time and let them know you will be calling on them) Why is it difficult to strive for excellence? “ I want it now” mentality. Share that in our current society, things happen much faster than in years past. Parents will agree that there are things kids ask for that they get quickly now versus when they were kids. Examples are fast food, fast information (internet), instant shopping and overnight delivery, etc.. Poor Work Ethic – Laziness, never learning the value and benefits of hard work. No encouragement from others – we need to encourage one another. We don’t always know what someone is feeling on the inside. Sometimes just a little nudge of encouragement goes a long way. Lack of Belief – To achieve excellence it means going above yourself and others may think you can do. Creating a goal and executing a plan can create belief. Surrounding yourself with great influences will reinforce that belief. Other may include: Pressure from our friends or difficulties at home or school Share that at Fo1, we believe behavior + attitude = results. So if you have the right mentality to do great things and are willing to work at it, then you can achieve excellence! Just remember to Strive for Excellence knowing that you are doing it for our Father who sees you all the time, be excellent knowing He is watching and approves your actions. Let’s strive to be excellence today: For Yourself, your teammates, your family and your heavenly Father. Fo1 puts God first and then we Work and Play in that order. So we will now ask all to join us in putting Him first by bowing our heads, two fists in the air and just listening to Him for a brief moment (after 5 – 8 secs say “Amen”). Now that we have put Him first, let’s raise our hands bow our heads and ask what we want. (after 5 – 8 secs say “Amen”) Now we Fo – 1 each other as a way of showing love. A Fo1‐1 is a hand shake and half‐hug. Make sure everyone receives a Fo – 1.
