State License Any Drinking Establishment or Private Club operating in the City of Shawnee must have a state license. This may be obtained by contacting the State of Kansas, Department of Revenue, Alcoholic Beverage Control Division, 915 SW Harrison St., Topeka, KS, 1-785-2967015. Building Inspection All new businesses are required to have a building inspection prior to opening. This inspection may be scheduled by contacting the Codes Administration Division at Shawnee City Hall,(913) 742-6010. Fire Inspection All new businesses are required to have a fire inspection prior to opening. This may be scheduled by contacting the Shawnee Fire Department at 631-1080. City Drinking Establishment/ Private Club License Any Drinking Establishment or Private Club operating in the City must have a city license. The licensing year runs from January through December. Applications for a Drinking Establishment or Private Club license may be obtained from the City Clerk’s office, City Hall, 11110 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS, (913) 742-6014. The City cannot issue a Drinking Establishment or Private Club License without first obtaining a copy of your state license. Bi-Annual Fee $500.00 Food Any Drinking Establishment or Private Club serving food must contact the Johnson County Health Department, (913) 715-6900. Zoning Approval City ordinance has certain restrictions on locations of Drinking Establishments and Private Clubs. You must obtain approval from the City Planning Department indicating that your location or planned location is appropriately zoned. This may be obtained by contacting the Planning Department, City Hall, 11110 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS, (913) 742-6011. Sign Permit City ordinance requires any business erecting a sign to obtain a sign permit. If a company is erecting a sign for your business, please make certain that either you or the sign company acquire a permit. This may be accomplished by contacting the Planning Department, City Hall, 11110 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS, (913) 742-6011. Final Certificate of Occupancy All businesses operating in the City of Shawnee are required to have a Certificate of Occupancy posted on their premises. This document is issued by the City Clerk’s office, City Hall, 11110 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS, (913) 742-6014. The City Clerk’s Department will not issue a Certificate of Occupancy until verification has been received that your business meets the City’s zoning requirements and has successfully passed both the fire and building inspection. Fee $ 5.00 Sales Tax Number Any retail business operating in the State of Kansas is required to have a state sales tax number. City Drinking Establishment/ Private Club Ordinances DRINKING ESTABLISHMENT/ PRIVATE CLUB Minors - No alcoholic liquor shall be given, sold or traded to any person under the age of 21. Hours - No Drinking Establishment shall allow the serving, mixing or consumption of alcoholic liquors on its premises between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on any day of the week. Hours - No Private Club shall allow the serving, mixing or consumption of alcoholic liquors on its premises between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on any day other than Sunday, and between the hours of 1:30 a.m. and noon on Sunday.
