Getting to the Newberry
Located in downtown Chicago, the Newberry is accessible by foot, bus, subway, and car. For out-of-town
visitors, two major airports as well as regional trains provide transportation options.

By Bus
#22: Coming from the south, the #22 bus
(Clark/Dearborn route) stops at the Newberry's front
door on Walton Street. From the north, the #22 bus stops
on the west side of the library (near the intersection of
Oak and Clark Streets).
#70: The #70 bus (Division route) stops at the
Newberry's front door on Walton Street.
Other convenient bus lines include the #66 (Chicago
route), #36 (Broadway route), and #156 (LaSalle route).
By Subway (the “L”)
Red Line Clark/Division stop: Upon exiting the station,
walk south on Clark Street (away from Division Street and
towards Elm Street) four blocks. The Newberry is located
on the corner of Clark and Walton Streets, facing
Washington Square.
Red Line Chicago stop: Upon exiting the station, walk west to Dearborn Street. Take a right onto Dearborn
Street and walk north three blocks to Walton Street. The Newberry is located on the corner of Dearborn
and Walton Streets, facing Washington Square.
Brown Line: The closest Brown Line stop is at Chicago Avenue. Exit the station on Chicago Avenue, and
walk east (across Franklin Street) three blocks to Clark Street. Take a left onto Clark, and walk north three
blocks to Walton Street. The Newberry is located on the corner of Clark and Walton Streets, facing
Washington Square.
By Car
From the Kennedy Expressway (I-90): Exit Ohio Street East, and follow Ohio Street about one mile to
Dearborn Street. Turn left onto Dearborn and go a half-mile north to Walton Street. The Newberry will be
on your left, at the corner of Dearborn and Walton Streets.
From Lake Shore Drive (U.S. Highway 41): Exit Lake Shore Drive onto LaSalle Drive. After a quarter-mile,
turn left onto Clark Street. Go straight on Clark Street for about one mile. The Newberry will be on your
left, between Oak and Walton Streets. Please note: Walton Street is one-way westbound, so you cannot take
a left onto Walton from Clark.
Parking information
The Newberry does not have a visitor parking lot. Limited 2-hour street parking is available at $4 per hour
on Walton, Oak, Dearborn, and other surrounding streets; 3-hour parking is available on Delaware, Clark
and Chestnut near Washington Square Park. Be sure to read the posted signs carefully! (Learn more about

Garage parking is also available in the neighborhood. The following garage offers discounted parking to
Newberry patrons:

100 West Chestnut Street: Enter on Clark Street; $8 (0-6 hours) and $9 (6-8 hours). Remember to
bring your parking ticket with you so it can be validated by the Newberry security guard.

Elm St. Plaza (1130 North Dearborn Street) next to Treasure Island between Clark and Dearborn;
$12 credit card-only early bird special.
100 East Walton just west of Michigan Ave; $15 early bird special.

By Train
Amtrak: Trains arrive at Union Station (approximately 2 miles southwest of the Newberry)
Metra: Chicago area's commuter rail system operates at four major stations: Ogilvie Transportation Center
(~2 mi), Millennium Station (~1.5 mi), LaSalle Street Station (~2 mi), and Union Station (~2 mi).
South Shore Line: Trains run between South Bend, Indiana, and Chicago (Millennium Station).
