Fairies and trolls have become quite popular in New Richmond. Last year
fairy gardens popped up all over town. In this class, we are going to make
miniature doors to “plant” in interesting locations around town. We will
also write stories about the creatures that may live behind those doors. If
time permits, we may make houses as well.

Summer Fun
AND
Summer Learning!
Summertime is a great time to be a kid. The season is filled with
sun, water, and outdoor fun. As it should be! But for elementary
and middle school students, it can also be filled with summer
learning – “Summer Stretch 2016.”
Research shows that all students experience learning loss over
the summer when they do not engage in educational activities,
and Summer Stretch, which takes place in June, provides a
great opportunity to mix summer fun with learning. Each year,
new classes are added to allow students to choose from an
assortment of classes that peak their interests, and this year is
no different. This year, a wide variety of new classes have been
added to our Stretch offering. There is a great mix of enrichment
and review classes. Make sure to talk to your child’s teacher for
specific recommendations. Summer Stretch acknowledges the
unique role that summer plays in American culture – a season for
outdoor fun mixed with learning!
Reading is one of the most important things a child can do in
the summer to keep his/her skills sharp for the next school year.
Adults can help by making sure children have lots of access to
books and by engaging with what their children are reading.
Read! Everyday!
Learning is a treasure that will
follow its owner everywhere.
