Pairs Check Activity
Instructions:
• Arrange students into groups of two. Have each pair
decide who will be Partner 1 and Partner 2.
• Partner 1 will work on the problem in the left column while
Partner 2 coaches. Coaches may only talk their teammate
through the problem when and if they become stuck (no
writing allowed). Once Partner 1 has completed the
problem, Partner 2 will initial the “Partner 2 Initials” box in
the left column. Initialing signifies that Partner 2 has
checked Partner 1’s work and agrees fully with the final
solution. (Tip: If a problem is incorrect when you stop by
for a teacher check, ask the partner who didn’t do the
problem to explain where their partner went wrong)
• Students switch places and repeat the process until they
reach a stop point.
• The purpose of the “Stop/Teacher Check” is to create a
check in point between you and your students. Use it as
you see fit in your own classroom. One suggestion is to
quickly glance over students answers, ask them how it’s
going and highlight the stop point to remind yourself later
on when grading.
