OUR SUPER SUPERHEROES!
Thank you to everyone who supported
our Children in Need day last Friday. We
have raised over £170 so far for the charity.
It was lovely to see children in the Prep
and Senior Departments dressing up or
accessorising their uniform to become
superheroes for the day. It’s not often
that you get the opportunity to come to
school as Spiderman or Cat Woman –
and that includes the teachers! You will
recall that we also had two competitions
– a ‘Name the superhero’ quiz and a
‘Turn Pudsey into a superhero!’ drawing
challenge. We received lots of entries
from pupils of all ages and can now
announce the winners who have each
received a small prize.
Drawing winners:
Senior: Charlotte H (10M)
Upper Prep: Dayon P (Year 6)
Lower Prep: Felicity B (Reception)
Well done all!

PARK FARM VISIT
BACK TO STONE AGE
Mrs Grove
Last Thursday, Miss Hopwood took her
Year 5 class to Norwich Castle Museum for
The Mystery of Prehistory workshop.
On Wednesday our AS Level Travel and
Tourism students visited Park Farm Hotel
in Hethersett to collect data for their
Customer Service portfolio. They also did
a spot of ‘mystery shopping’, having
established benchmarks beforehand.
We saw the facilities on offer including
some amazing bedrooms. It was really
interesting to see how this company dealt
with customers, both internal and
external. Thanks to Michael Bannister the
hotel’s front office manager for spending
so much time with us.
Our biggest cake sale yet is being held
in the dining room at break time on
Monday 24th November. Proceeds will
be going towards the summer ball 2015.

Quiz winners:
Senior: Isabel H (9C)
Upper Prep: Annie H (Year 5)
Lower Prep: William D (Reception)
.
The children were lucky enough to handle
artefacts dating back to 8000 years BC.
They dressed up as neolithic farmers and
even had the opportunity to grind wheat
into flour using neolithic tools! They all had
a wonderful day learning more about
prehistoric times.

WE LOVE SCIENCE!
Every Wednesday afternoon, Year 5
and 6 have a double science lesson
with Mr Peace in Laboratory D. We
love spending the afternoon in the
senior science block and have done
lots of experiments! At the start of
term, we experimented with the density
of solids and liquids. Did you know that
a fresh egg will sink in a glass of water
but if you add lots of salt, the salt will
sink to the bottom of the glass and the
egg will sit on top of the salt? It looks
as if the egg is floating in the middle of
the glass! Did you know that an orange
will float but, when you peel it, the
orange will sink? Try it at home!
This half-term, we made rocket balloons
to understand ‘thrust’ and our miniexperiments have taught us more about
‘buoyancy’ and ‘air pressure’. We had
lots of fun making a Cartesian diver.
Google it to find out more! You’ll find
all the materials you need to do this
experiment at home.
We even had a lesson about the travels
of Rosetta and the landing of Philae on
the comet. Mr Peace showed us a really
interesting presentation by the European
Space Agency and it was very exciting
to learn that, as last week’s lesson was
coming to an end, scientists across the
world had only a few more minutes to
wait before the historic landing.
“I love Science lessons! I wish we could do experiments every day!”
(Stella, Year 5)
EXPERIMENTING WITH ROALD DAHL!
As well as being dressed up in superhero
outfits last Friday, Years 3-6 were treated
to an exciting Roald Dahl themed morning
and afternoon. Lizzie came from the
Roald Dahl museum to talk to the children
about Roald Dahl himself and discuss the
inspirations for many of his novels; we
even found out that Roald Dahl kept his
hip bone in a jar on his writing desk - eww!
Groups were then given the task of creating
their own 'medicine' like the one described
in George's Marvellous Medicine. There
were some interesting discussions taking
place, with many saying they needed to
create a medicine to make their siblings
nicer! Miss Hopwood

Hopwood’s classroom, from where you

GEOGRAPHY TRIP ROMAN SOLDIERS AND ICENI FOLK
Year 7 students went on a half day visit to
Vauxhall and Rupert St in Norwich on the
30th November and spent a very busy
morning collecting copious amounts of
data. They carried out questionnaires, land
use surveys, traffic and pedestrian counts as
well as field sketches of houses and flats.
They worked very hard and enjoyed a wellearned hot chocolate from a local cafe
during their break.

Year 4 went to Norwich Castle for a Roman
and Iceni Workshop. We had the chance to
see Roman clothing and coins, met some
‘real’ Romans and Iceni villagers and
learned about their lives. More pictures
and details of the trip will soon be on the
blog!
“I liked it when we had to vote for the Iceni
or the Romans. In the end the Romans
arrested the Celts - I felt very sorry for
them!” Tabby

TENNIS COACHING REMINDER
Following recent questions from parents
we can confirm that tennis for Year 3
finished at October half term and will
start again from February half term
onwards.
Meanwhile, the newly formed Year 7
team played Taverham High School in
their first game. The team consisted of
five Year 7s with Harriet Catlin and Mia
Dunne from Year 6 who have shown
excellent potential in their games
sessions and at hockey club. We started
slowly but quickly found our feet and
developed throughout the game to play
some lovely passing hockey whilst
conceding very few fouls.
In the end we ran out deserved 5-1
winners with Harriet scoring 2 and
Rebekah Young 3. Player of the match
was awarded jointly to Harriet and
captain Sophie Barrow.
Well played, girls!
