Something is rotten in the land I love
Andrew Bolt |The Daily Telegraph | 6 July
Here are some things I never thought I'd see in this
country that I love so much.
In other places, but not here.
One of them is seeing people picketing shops
because their owners were Jews.

The economic case for supporting Israel
George Gilder | World Street Journal | 5 July
America needs the Jewish state's technology and innovation as much as it needs us.
America's enemies understand deeply and intuitively that no U.S. goals or resources in the
Middle East are remotely as important as Israel. Why don't we?
Vital to the U.S. economy and military capabilities, tiny Israel's unparalleled achievements in
industry and intellect have conjured up the familiar anti-Semitic frenzies among all the
economically and morally failed societies of the socialist and Islamist Third World, from Iran to
Venezuela. They all imagine that by delegitimizing, demoralizing, defeating or even destroying
Israel, they could take a major step toward bringing down the entire capitalist West.
To most sophisticated Westerners, the jihadist focus on Israel seems bizarre and
counterproductive. But on the centrality of Israel the jihadists have it right. READ MORE
There's no right of return

International law and UN resolutions regarding the Palestinian question do not confer on
refugees and their descendants a right to return within the borders of Israel. READ MORE
Is the UN stark raving mad?
Editorial | The Australian | 4 July
As a case of lunatics taking over the asylum, it would be hard to beat the announcement that
North Korea has assumed chairmanship of the UN Conference on Disarmament, the premier
world body charged with the cessation of the nuclear arms race and prevention of nuclear war.

The flotilla, Gilad Shalit and the friends of genocide
David Meir-Levi | Front Page Magazine | 5 July
Despite overwhelming video and documentary evidence of the flotilla activists’ radical agenda
and their affinity for violence, all too many commentators asserted that the flotilla of Gazabound vessels sailed on a purely “humanitarian” mission, and Israel’s interception on the high
seas was in violation of international law and the maritime laws of war. Bona fide scholars of
international law supported Israel’s actions and debunked the anti-Israel accusations.
The basis for the legality of Israel’s interception of the blockade runners was the fact that
Hamas, the ruling force in the Gaza Strip and an organization condemned as an illegal enemy
terrorist entity by the US Department of State and the European Union, was in an active state
of war with Israel. In wartime, blockades are legal according to international law. READ MORE
Boat People
Christopher Hitchens | The Slate | 4 July
The little boats cannot make much difference to the welfare of Gaza either way, since the
materials being shipped are in such negligible quantity. The chief significance of the enterprise
is therefore symbolic. The intended beneficiary of the stunt is a ruling group with close ties to
two of the most retrograde dictatorships in the Middle East, each of which has recently been
up to its elbows in the blood of its own civilians. The same group also manages to maintain
warm relations with, or at the very least to make cordial remarks about, both Hezbollah and alQaida. Meanwhile, a document that was once accurately described as a "warrant for genocide"
forms part of the declared political platform of the aforesaid group. There is something about
this that fails to pass a smell test. READ MORE
A wall of indifference: Italy’s Shoah Memorial
Bridget Kevane | The Jewish Daily Forward | 29 June
The Milan Central Train Station is a grandiose building and a forceful presence at the heart of
the city, used daily by 320,000 people. But this busy European railway hub harbors a dark
history: Underneath the station, hidden from view, is the secret track used to deport Italian
Jews to Auschwitz. READ MORE

Ukraine’s vanquished Jews: ‘Their fate was clear to them’
Natalia Feduschak | Kyiv Post | 30 June
New investigations following the collapse of the Soviet Union have led many historians to
reexamine Eastern Europe’s place in the Final Solution, the Nazis’ plan to eliminate Jews from
Europe. Between 1941 and 1943, more than 1.5 million Jews met their death by bullets in
Ukraine. They were massacred by mobile killing units called the Einsatzgruppen, Waffen SS
units and German police. Local residents who collaborated with the Nazis willingly or by
coercion helped in the killing.
Today’s western Ukraine found itself at the epicenter of the Holocaust. READ MORE

Vote to embarrass Greens on Israel
Greens Leader Bob Brown has failed to ''put his money where his mouth is'' by voting against a
Senate motion condemning a boycott of Israel, a policy supported by new senator Lee
Rhiannon, according to the Nationals' Ron Boswell. Senator Rhiannon, one of four new Greens
in the Senate, backed a Sydney local council and New South Wales Greens position for a boycott
of Israel. Senator Brown called the policy ''a mistake'', saying it cost votes at March's NSW state
election. ''It's not our policy and won't be,'' Senator Brown said in April.
A motion by Senator Boswell that ''condemns the boycott of Israel instigated by Marrickville
Council'' passed the Senate with the support of Labor and the Coalition. The Greens voted
against it.
The motion also recognised Israel as a legitimate and democratic state and ''a good friend of
Australia''. (The Age) To read the Senate motions on Israel go HERE
