Harlequin

Create lighthearted elegance
with well-chosen colors

This design started out as a task — creating
a design using two-hole square Swarovski
Elements crystals — and became a party!
I designed the earrings first and the necklace
was born quickly after. The bright, contrasting
colors in this jewelry remind me of the classic
Harlequin character’s costume. Am I at Mardi
Gras or the Venice Carnival? Who cares? I’m
having a great time! And with some simple
wire bending, you will be too.

Starting 1 ⁄4 in. (6 mm) from
the bend in step 4, make a
45-degree bend toward the
dangle.
Starting 1 ⁄8 in. (3 mm) from
the bend in step 3, use your
flatnose pliers (Tips, below) to
make a right-angle bend away
from the dangle.
Tips
• Using 1 ⁄8 -in. (3 mm) and 1 ⁄4 -in.
(6 mm) flatnose pliers made
things easier with this project,
but if you don’t have them, mark
1 ⁄ 8 -in. (3 mm) and 1 ⁄4 -in. (6 mm)
points on your chainnose pliers
for even bends.
• When making plain loops for
the dangles, make sure the loops
are the same size or smaller than
the cube beads to keep the
dangles from sliding over the
adjacent beads.
• Complete the beading wire
sections before you attach them
to the centerpiece to avoid
accidentally bending the wire
while you work.
• One side of the square crystal
is more reflective than the other.
Make sure the same side faces
forward in all the dangles.
On a head pin, string: alternating pattern of three black
and two white cubes, left hole of
the bottom square from step 1,
alternating pattern of three white
and two black cubes, left hole
of the top square, briolette, black
cube, white cube, black cube.
Make a plain loop.
