It’s an Ullympic year: Breckenridge Distillery attempts record for world’s longest shot ski
BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. – Dec. 27, 2013 – The mountain community of Breckenridge, Colo. will ring in the
new year with the week-long Ullr Fest, a wild winter festival honoring Ullr (rhymes with cooler), the
Norse god of snow. During this town-wide snow dance, locals don Viking helmets and participate in
activities such as the Ullympics (group ski racing, anyone?), a family Nordic night, pond hockey and the
notorious Main Street parade. The theme, It’s an Ullympic Year, accompanies the Breckenridge
Distillery’s attempt to break the record for the world’s longest shot ski. In 2013, 192 people lined up to
take a shot of Breckenridge Distillery booze from a 313-foot shot ski composed of 60 skis. See a schedule

Breckenridge began the Ullr Fest tradition in 1963, and each winter, Ullr returns the love by dropping
more than 300 inches of snow on the peaks surrounding town.







Sunday, Jan. 5 – Crowning of the Ullr King and Queen: Includes live bluegrass by the Honey
Gitters, plus a free beer stein or Viking helmet for the first 400 through the doors. Breckenridge

Monday, Jan. 6 – Family Nordic Night: Bring the kids for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating,
indoor activities and a family-friendly bonfire at the Breckenridge Nordic Center on Ski Hill Road.

Tuesday, Jan. 7 – Ullympics: Partake in wild events such as the frying pan toss, group ski racing

Wednesday, Jan. 8 – Breck’s Got Talent and Wild and Scenic Film Fest: Join local radio station
KSMT at the Backstage Theatre for a town-wide talent show or head to the Riverwalk Center for
an evening of environmental film.
Thursday, Jan. 9 – World record shot ski, Ullr Fest parade and town bonfire: The centerpiece of
the week, the Ullr Fest parade showcases Breckenridge’s style of wild winter fun – past floats
have included dogsled teams, hot tubs, a ski jump and more. A town bonfire will follow. FREE
Friday, Jan. 10 – Comedy night: Comedy Works comics descend on Breckenridge for a night of
big laughs at the Breckenridge Riverwalk Center.
Saturday, Jan. 11 – Pond Hockey Tournament: Close out the week with a pond hockey
tournament at the Gold Run Nordic Center.
