Sample questions
Helping your team prepare for the quiz is all part of the
fun of entering. Here are some fun ideas to help your
team get in tip top condition ready for the big day.
1. What is my title? My main character is an
orphaned boy who lives with his cruel aunt and
uncle. He sleeps in a cupboard under the stairs,
but is eventually rescued by a giant who tells him
about his true identity.
• Run a survey to discover your school pupils’ top
five favourite children’s authors then research their
books and biography, thinking about the sorts of
questions a quizmaster might ask.
• Summarise your favourite children’s book, breaking
it down into ten key points and thinking about the
key events, names of characters, setting etc. What
questions might you set if you were designing a quiz
around this book?
• How many stories, poems or rhymes related to cats
you can name in a minute? What other subjects
would this game work with?
• What would your children’s literature ‘specialist
subject’ be? Is there a particular author, illustrator
or series of books you know everything about? If
you were designing a quiz around your specialist
subject, what questions would you ask?
• Who is your favourite author or illustrator? Choose
an author or illustrator you’d like to ‘champion’,
research their books and biography and summarise
the main points to share with the rest of the team.
• Choose a book the team have all read or read a new
book together, thinking of quiz questions as you go.
Can you answer each other’s questions? Were any
of the questions similar?
