10 YEARS COURTESY MATTERS AND ENCANA’S BUSINESS STRATEGY WHY COURTESY MATTERS IS IMPORTANT TO ENCANA’S BUSINESS STRATEGY Encana recognizes that oil and gas development that occurs in rural areas can create disturbances and impacts on people’s daily lives. Our resource play strategy requires long-term operations in communities, so our reputation and relationships within communities are critical to our ability to access land and to garner community support. Courteous conduct is a prerequisite for operating and our efforts to minimize daily impacts are critical to our sustainable development. Our Courtesy Matters program offers our staff, contractors and service providers a benchmark for courteous behavior and reinforces expectations for appropriate actions. KEY MESSAGES Courtesy Matters is Enanca’s signature program focused on being a good neighbour and demonstrating respect and courtesy in the communities where we operate. The program is designed to minimize the everyday disturbances that can come along with our activity. For the past decade, Courtesy Matters has been an integral part of Encana’s business strategy and will continue to be. As we work alongside our contractors and service providers to reduce our impacts, a courteous and respectful approach will help to sustain community support and build strong working relations. Courtesy Matters promotes responsible, courteous behaviour in relation to: • dust – Ensure dust, gravel, snow or rocks are not impacting residences. Slow down and increase spacing between vehicles to maximize safety. • noise – minimize noise disturbances whenever possible • garbage and waste – ensure garbage and waste are contained on worksites and managed responsibly • traffic – be aware of road rules and advise Encana of any unsafe conditions: −− ensure courteous and safe driving habits to and from job sites −− monitor driving speed and adhere to motor vehicle regulations and safe practices −− Stay on designated roads, trails and access routes. If unsure, ask an Encana representative. • gates – be familiar with all gate requirements for the area you are working in • lease – be mindful of activity on lease sites and minimize potential impacts on area residents • respect your neighbour – promote courteous conduct and respectful behaviour at all times The participation and positive actions of our staff, contractors and service providers drives the program and helps ensure community support and long-term development. It’s the small changes in our behaviours that can make a big difference.
