Forest Park Falcons March 5, 2014 Forest Park School, KUSD Principal’s Message Interesting tidbits: Great Job! - Kindergarten classes earned the attendance award for January attendance with a 96.9% attendance rate. The School-wide attendance rate for December is 95.4%. Our schoolwide goal is 96.5. Please stop in the office to sign in when you come to school. This is a safety measure for all to follow. We want to ensure that your children are safe at school. We appreciate your help in making that happen. Playground supervision begins at 7:55 in the morning and ends at 3:20. Breakfast begins at 7:35 in the morning. There is no supervision provided for students that arrive before that time. So please do not send your child to school too early in the morning. We want everyone to be safe. Breakfast closes at 8:00. Please make sure your child arrives with enough time to eat and leave the lunchroom by 8:05. Dear Parents, School attendance is important for student learning success. This year we have increased our school attendance rate by .44% for the first semester. 152 students earned a Bucks game ticket for perfect attendance in February. This is an increase of 35 students over last year’s numbers. Children do better in school when they go to school all day—every day. After an absence, a student must work twice as hard to catch up on missed information and missed work. Missing 10% (or about 18 days) can make it harder for your child to learn to read. Regular school attendance helps students feel better about school and themselves. You are building positive life-long patterns of behavior by teaching your children that being in school is important. We know that there are many reasons why students miss school due to illnesses and other situations. Please remember to call school to let us know why your child is missing school. If your child has a medical issue, please remember to bring a doctor’s note and we can code the absence due to medical reasons. Thank you for all of your support in helping your children attend school regularly. Thank you for all of your support at Parent/Teacher Conferences as well. Working in partnership with families will help our students achieve. We had a positive turnout and enjoyed talking with you about your child's progress. As always, if you have any questions or concerns– please contact me at 359-6319. District-wide emergency and school closing text message alerts Last spring the district began using a free service for districtwide emergency and school closing text message alerts. While this service worked well during the waterspout incidents this fall, the company has since decided to charge KUSD for its services. Rather than pay another company, KUSD has decided to work with School Messenger to utilize the texting services available to us through our emergency phone call plan with them. We apologize for the inconvenience, but hope that all understand the cost savings aspect of this initiative. To register, please visit: http:// www.kusd.edu/about/ inclement-weather-procedures and click on the Sign-up to Receive Text Alerts Today! Button to fill out the online form. After submitting the form you will receive a text within 24-48 hours that you must reply Y to in order to be fully registered. Please do this well before any inclement weather because it takes 24-48 hours to process. Sign up for the emergency text messaging service. It is new!!!!
