This act gives EPA the jurisdiction to control the generation, transportation, treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste. This is “cradle-to-grave” control. This addresses the issue of improper handling of chemicals that have caused many environmental problems. It also encouraged recycling, resource recovery, waste reduction. Cradle Grave Important Amendments 1984- (Federal Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments) Increased the jurisdiction and enforcement authority of the EPA Increased waste management standards Created a comprehensive underground storage tank program 1986 Gave the EPA jurisdiction to address any problems resulting from the underground tank storage.
