By talking about this with your children, you will help them develop their understanding and communication skills. • BIG TALK Literacy - Reading • We are aiming to build a love of story, books and reading. • Please make time to read with your child as often as possible. • Don’t forget it is important for you to carry on reading and sharing stories with your child throughout their school life. Phonics • We begin with a focus on Phase 1 (letters and sounds) phonics – rhyming, alliteration, sounds we hear around us and body percussion • We then introduce the sound of letters within general play and talk about a sound of the week. • We use the ‘Read Write Inc’ programme in school. • pure sound – no ‘u’ in ‘t’. Literacy - Writing • Mark making • Multi sensory approach – not all our writing is on paper! Use your home language. • Contains essential ideas, information and key dates Other teachers • On Friday mornings, the class teachers and Early Years Practitioners (EYPs) are out of class for planning and preparation time (PPA). • Miss Housego and Miss Daiwish (our additional EYPs), with 2 exciting opportunities; Big Foot (Drama and singing), Fit for Sport with Mr Allen. • Afternoon children get these opportunities on Thursday (Big Foot) and Friday (Fit for Sport).
