10 Days Rainfall, Rainfall Cumulative & Number of
Rainy Days:
Eastern Sates:
The first dekad of August brought above average rainfall in Kassala and Halfa El Gadida and
below average rainfall in Gedaref. Rainfall performance in Kassala and Halfa El Gadida is
getting better that that of Gedaref during early August. Kassala recorded 50 mm and Halfa El
Gadida recorded 56mm in this dekad. Crops growing conditions are favorable in Kassala and
Halfa El Gadida since late July above average rainfall. (See Fig 1)
Figure 1: Dekdal Rainfall amounts 2014 compared with LTA 1981-2010 for Kassala, Halfa El Gadida &
Gedaref stations.
In term of cumulative rainfall, Halfa El Gadida and Gedaref stations showed above average
cumulative rainfall amounts. In contrast Kassala station still continued to show below average
cumulative rainfall amounts since the start of the rainy season until this dekad. (See Fig 2)
Generally, considerable improvements in rainfall performance in the eastern part are
noticeable since late July, which will result in good growing season and pastoral development.

Figure 2: Cumulative Rainfall 2014 Vs Cumulative Average for Kassala, Halfa El Gadida & Gedaref
stations.
Early August showed significant increase in the number of rainy days in all the stations in the
region. Maximum number of rainy days was 6 rainy days registered in Gedaref station.
Kassala and Halfa El Gadida stations showed 4 and 5 rainy days respectively during this
dekad. Although, Kassala was received good rainfall during this dekad, but the number of

Central States:
1. Sennar:
Rainfall performance in Sennar state during this period is from average to below average.
Abu Naama received near average rainfall (62mm), Um Banien received below average rainfall
(46 mm) and Sennar received far below average rainfall (6mm). The overall performance of the
rainfall in Sennar state during this dekad is far below average. The growing situation may
benefit from the last dekad high rainfall that registered in Sennar and Abu Naama stations.
(See Fig 4)
Figure 4: Dekdal Rainfall amounts 2014 compare with the LTA 1981-2010; Sennar, Abu Naama & Um
Banien stations.
SMA – Ten Days Bulletin 2014

In term of cumulative rainfall, Sennar Abu Naama and Um Banien stations showed above
average cumulative rainfall, this is due to the early July high rainfall amounts that received in
Um Banien station and late July good rainfall that registered in Sennar and Abu Naama
stations.(See Fig 5).
Figure 5: Cumulative Rainfall 2014 Vs Cumulative Average for Sennar, Abu Naama & Um Banien
stations.
There was an increase in the number of rainy days in this dekad in Sennar and Um Banien
stations compare with the long term average. Sennar showed 4 rainy days while Um Banien
showed 5 rainy days. Abu Naama showed below average number of rainy days which was 3
days during this dekad. (See Fig 6)
Figure 6: Number of Rainy Days 2014 per Dekad for Sennar, Abu Naama & Um Banien stations.
2. El Gazira & White Nile States:
Rainfall performance during this dekad in El Gazira State was above average with rainfall
amount 28mm observed in Wad Medani Agromet station. (See Fig 7).
The situation in White Nile State is mixed, Ed Duiem station showed below average rainfall
(20mm), while Kosti stations showed above average rainfall amount (73mm).
(See Fig 7)
Figure 7: Dekdal Rainfall amounts 2014 compared with LTA 1981-2010 for Wad Medani, Ed Duiem &
Kosti stations.
Wad Medani station still showed above average cumulative rainfall in since mid-May.
(See Fig
8)

Both El Duiem and Kosti stations have above average cumulative rainfall during this dekad.
(See Fig 8)
Figure 8: Cumulative Rainfall 2014 Vs Average Cumulative for Wad Medani, Ed Duiem & Kosti
stations.
Wad Medani station showed 4 rainy days during this dekad, which was above average for this
dekad, but less than the previous dekad. (See Fig 9)
Ed Duiem and Kosti stations registered on average number of rainy days which is 3 rainy days
each. (See Fig 9)
Figure 9: Number of Rainy Days 2014 per Dekad for Wad Medani, Ed Duiem & Kosti stations.
3. Blue Nile State:
Damazine station received below average rainfall amounts (32 mm) in this dekad. In terms of
cumulative rainfall the station showed on average cumulative rainfall in this dekad. The
cumulative rainfall decrease as the decrease of rainfall amounts that registered in the station
during the late-July. The suppression of the rainfall in Blue Nile state during this period is due
to the movement of the ITCZ to its far position in the most north of the country. (See Fig 10)
Number of rainy days registered in this dekad was 5 rainy days, which is above average, but
equal to the last dekad rainfall number. (See Fig 10)

Western States:
4. Greater Kordofan State:
In general, the rainfall performance during this dekad in the greater Kordofan states is varied.
Good rainfall amounts received in Nahoud stations (42mm). Below average rainfall amounts
registered in Obied and Banausa stations (7mm & 44mm) respectively.(See Fig 11)
Figure 11: Dekdal Rainfall amounts 2014 compared with LTA 1981-2010 for Obied, Nahoud & Babanusa
stations.
Cumulative rainfall was above average in Obied, Nahoud and Babanusa stations. The rainfall
amounts that received in the southern part of greater Kordofan till this dekad are above
average, which ensure good irrigation for the crops and animals resources. The situation in the
northern part is getting better as the season progress. (See Fig 12)
Figure 12: Cumulative Rainfall 2014 Vs Average Cumulative for Obied, Nahoud & Babanusa stations.
Number of rainy days registered during this dekad is exceeded the average in Nahoud and
Babanusa stations, while it remained on average in Obied station. Obied registered 3 rainy
days, Babanusa 4 rainy days and Nahoud stations registered 6 rainy days during this dekad.
(See Fig 13)
Figure 13: Number of Rainy Days 2014 per Dekad for Obied, Nahoud & Babanusa stations.
The performance of the rainfall in Kadogli was poor during this dekad compared with the
average. The rainfall amount that registered in this dekad is below average, which is 30mm.
Cumulative rainfall was above average compared with the cumulative rainfall average. The

number of rainy days is increased dramatically, there is 7 rainy days during this dekad, i.e. the
greatest number of rainy days per dekad since the commence of the season. (See Fig 14)
Figure 14: Dekadal Rainfall amounts 2014 compared with average, Cumulative Rainfall 2014 Vs
cumulative average & Number of rainy days in Kadogli station.
5. Greater Darfur State:
Greater Darfur states represented by three observation stations; Geniena, El Fasher and
Nyala. The rainfall performance was good in the state except in Nyala it is poor. The rainfall
amounts registered in Geniena station was (158mm), Fasher registered (154mm) and Nyala
stations registered (16mm). (See Fig 15)
Figure 15: Dekadal Rainfall 2014 Vs LTA in Geniena, Fasher & Nyala stations.
The cumulative rainfall was above average in Geniena and Fasher during this dekad and below
average in Nyala station. The situation in Fasher is reformed by these late above average rains.
The cumulative rainfall exceeded its average amounts as a result of the early August good
rainfall. (See Fig 16)
Figure 16: Cumulative Rainfall 2014 Vs Average Cumulative in Geniena, Fasher & Nyala stations.
There was considerable increase in the number of rainy days in Fasher and Geniena stations
during this dekad, which are 5 and 7 rainy days respectively. In contrast, Nyala showed on
average number of rainy days in this dekad, which is 3 rainy day. (See Fig 17)
