SECRETARY’S REPORT – SEPTEMBER 14, 2014
The meeting was called to order at 9:11 A.M. John “Reeper” Williams led us in the Pledge of
Allegiance. There were 52 members and 3 guests in attendance
STORY TIME: CRAIG PETERS asked the membership if they had any stories to share:
 Bob “Mr. Lucky” Ranger reminded us that last month when Craig was presented with his Director’s
patch that Craig was told he had a big pair of shoes to fill and Craig said he may need a helping hand to
do as well of a job as Director as our Past Director John “Reeper” Williams has done over the years.
Well, Bob presented Craig with a pair of clown shoes and a plastic hand, to help him prepare for his
new role ad Director.
 Bob “Mr. Lucky” Ranger also talked about meeting “Reeper” and how John’s mother told Bob that John
graduated from the 3rd grade. When Bob questioned John’s mom about this she said “yes, he was the
smartest 17 year old in the class”. Bob also reminisced about meeting John and the difficulty he had
understanding his accent (although John insists WE have the accent). We will miss John and Connie
more than words can say and we wish them nothing but the best.
 Brian Thibodeau thanked John “Reeper” Williams for taking over as Director when he stepped down
and for all he has done for the club.
 Gary Santorso got a flat front tire on his brand new bike on the Putnam Bridge. He was on hold with
HOG for 20 minutes before deciding to call AAA. The man who came to the rescue was a great guy
from Glastonbury and if you ever get stuck, contact him directly and he will work everything out with
AAA. His name and number was not provided at the meeting but see Gary Santorso for more
information.

SAFETY REPORT: JEFF SMITH gave the following safety report:
 RIGHT TURN ON RED – when leading a group it’s common courtesy to not take a right on red. Wait for
the light to change and this will avoid the possibility of the group being broken up.
 RIGHT OF WAY – as soon as you put your bike in gear you cannot take it for granted that the other
vehicles will stop even though legally you have the right of way. We know all too well, you lose that
right of way to cars and trucks.
 RIDING ON LEAVES – ‘tis the season. Watch out and remember the leaves can be as slippery as ice.
 Recall on 2014’s with ABS the front tire may lock up, be sure and check with Yankee to see if you have
one of the bikes on recall.

GOODBYES ARE DIFFICULT AND THANK YOU ISN’T ENOUGH
Sometimes, one of the hardest things we have to do is say goodbye to good friends. On Sunday, September
14, 2014 we had to say goodbye to two of our great friends.
John Williams and Connie Myles are moving to South Carolina at the end of this month, to be with John’s
family. Their HOG family will miss them tremendously. They are the epitome of loyalty, dedication,
generosity and so much more. Many times we don’t want to let go of such loyal friends, but we know about
their commitment to family and can only commend them and send them off with our best wishes and tons of
love.
John helped to organize many rides when he was the Head Road Captain and has been instrumental in
bringing some innovations to the club as our recent Director. He and Connie helped to coordinate a 2 day
Scavenger Hunt – “The Amazing Race” that was filled with fun, many laughs and some unforgettable errors on
our part not his! At the end of the race everyone was given a great home cooked BBQ also put on by John and
Connie. They were also involved in coordinating and revising the annual “ALL CT HOG CHAPTER PICNIC”. The
time, energy and effort both of them gave to the Chapter was without a doubt above and beyond what was
required of them.
Connie was absolutely amazing when it came to the annual Fundraiser for the HOG Chapter Pasta Dinner. She
labored for many, many hours, day and weeks making quilts, to raffle off, for the Pasta Dinner and also for
other fundraisers. One of the examples would be the quilt she made for the “ARE YOU DENSE RIDE” that was
held last month in Wolcott.
This is why the words thank you truly are inadequate on our part to say to you both, but they are the only
words we can say at this point. So in English – THANK YOU; Cantonese – DO JEH; French – MERCI; German –
DANKE SEHR; Italian – GRAZIE and from down South – THANKS YA’LL. You will both be with us always and
know that a little piece of us will be going with you on your move.
Think of us often (especially in winter when you’re riding and we aren’t) and we will be thinking of you – we
love ya’ll forever.
