Shapes VS Form
Shape VS Form
• How are these two shapes
different?
• What makes them
different?
Shape 2-D
Form 3-D
Shading and Value
• What is a Value Scale?
• What does it do to shapes
when used correctly?
• Does the direction of the
light affect the shapes?
How?
• Let’s take a look.
Direction of light
• Where the sun or light is
coming from is going to
determine how you shade
the objects.
• Look at these four
drawings and ask
yourselves these
questions.
– Where is the light coming
from?
– How are they shaded
differently?
Light Source
• Look at this picture.
• Where is the light coming
from?
• How do you know?
Highlighting Spheres
• Determine where your
light source is coming
from.
• The lightest spot is where
the light hits the object
directly.
• The back is dark.
• If you have two light
sources, it creates a
double shadow. Look at
the globe above.
Your Turn Again!
• Draw the 5 shapes 5 times each on your handout. Make
sure you use a ruler!
• Pick a light source direction.
• Shade each shape to make it look 3-D.
