Season 2017
Hello all Port Bulldog members, players and supporters.
Firstly let me start by saying thank you for allowing me this fantastic opportunity to coach this great and highly respected football club. I have been overwhelmed with the support and welcome I have received. My wife Danielle and our children Kodi,
Jaden, Pippa, Milla and Ty are very excited and I look forward to the challenge of everybody working together and hopefully
helping bring the club back to finals.
The biggest challenge so far has been to remember faces and names, I will get there and look forward to catching up with as
many people throughout the season. I had the great pleasure of meeting many of the volunteers at the Christmas show and appreciate what you do. We look forward to repaying the favour by having success which will hopefully make you busier. (Ha-ha)
Since I have been appointed we have been working hard on recruiting and making sure we retained as many locals as well as
bringing new faces to the club. We really focused hard on not just our top end players but ensuring we have plenty of depth to
strengthen all grades. I am not here just to make the A grade successful but the aim is to have all teams playing finals.
We are fortunate to and pleased to announce and welcome Darren Woolford to the club who will be my assistant coach. Darren
has played around 20 League games of football for North Adelaide. Darren has also coached A grade and B grade football teams
and brings a wealth of experience to the club.
Of the new players to come to the club we welcome:
Nicholas Schild - Nick joins us fr om the Bir dwood football club. Nick is a r uckman/for war d who br ings a fair bit of experience as he played all his juniors at the Norwood football club and has also played for Lobethal in the strong Div. 1 Hills
League. Nick has moved to Pirie to take up a role of a school teacher at the Mid North Christian School.
Ryan Finn- Ryan joins us fr om Or r or oo, Ryan is a str ong utility player who has not played for a couple of year s. He
played A grade football for Orroroo and played in their last grand final side in 2013. Ryan lives in Port Pirie.
Kye Turpin- Kye joins us fr om the Lobethal football club. Kye is an onballer . Kye is a ver y fit young man who has over 2
-3 years of experience playing A grade football but is still only in his very early 20’s. Kye has also spent some time with Sturt
and Norwood.
When you see these boys around the club, please make sure they feel welcome.
At the time of writing this we are also very close to hopefully announcing a couple more recruits. So stay tuned.
We also welcome back for another year our reigning B & F winner Shannon Snook and Brett Woodards back for 2017. I was
also happy to see players like Nelson Magor and Mitchell Collins who are returning from injuries in 2016.
We have had two trainings so far and I have been really surprised with the amount of talent we have, numbers were good for
both trainings. The more numbers the more fun trainings can be. I am also very impressed with the young players that are coming through our U/18’s. We have seen many of these faces at the first two trainings, these players were Nathan Stapley, Fraser
Collins, Ethan Balmer, Will Taylor, Liam Dreaver, Ayden Jorgensen, Darcy Puddy, Isaac Matheson, Decklan and
O’Reily Gray. So gr eat to see the futur e looks br ight.
Training starts on January 24th and we look forward to seeing as many faces as we can. Trainings are going to be very ball focused and game simulated drills. The boys will work hard but the aim is to enjoy their football as much as they can.
I would like to wish Brad Inglis all the best for his future, I only had the chance to meet Brad once and I can see why he was
held in such high regard and was a champion of this club. I can let everybody know that Brad found it a very tough decision
based on how much he loved the club.
Happy New Year and good luck to all coaches and players for 2017.

the dump.

SGL in 1985 and has played 118 league games and 292 seconds

PORT JUNIORS IN 2016
The under 15s had a great year in winning the under 15 Port Pirie Competition for 2016 under Jamie McNamara in his first
year as their coach after taking over from John Gibson, last years Premiership coach. Jamie is a very good coach and
maybe a senior coach in the making, the players think a lot of him. Jamie was assisted by helpers John Murphy &
John Gibson.
Along with umpires Stephen Magor, Greg Collins and Matt Ganley they make a great team A big thank you to all
those mentioned above who helped Jamie in 2016, much appreciated . Coaches need all the help they can get.
Congratulations to Jamison Murphy winner of the Don Rafanelli medal, the best and fairest award for 2016. Another
Murphy on the way up. Runner up was Isaac Matheson they are two of our up and coming footballers. The Junior
Committee sincerely thanks you Jamie and all the helpers for a great 2016.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------————————————--------------------Under 13’s coached once again coached by Paul Keane, I think this year was a challenging year due to so many bottom age players in the team. Wins were hard to come by in this grade but not for lack of endeavour as the lads consistently tried their best and improved through out the season. Paul’s turn will come again perhaps next year with
more top age players in his team, Paul has been a great coach over the years and has seen a number of players go on
to play A grade in his time. Thank you for all the time you put in and all your helpers and umpires.
Congratulations to Nathan Sorensen winner of the Walsh Medal and best and fairest for 2016. Runner up was Lachlan Stephens. A special thank you must go to Darren Ramsay, Michael Herrick, Geof Keane and Ernie Sorensen for
all the hard work they put in,
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------————————————--------------------Under 11’s were coached by Rowan Connelly and he had great help and support from Michael Herrick. We just can’t
say enough about the amount of work Rowan and all coaches put in. To all the people who helped and umpired a big
thank you to you all. Rowan tried his hardest to ensure the boys enjoyed their football. Congratulations to Zakk
Northcott for winning the John Rafanelli Medal, the best and fairest for 2016.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------————————————--------------------Under 9’s had a total of 43 players, coach Damon Ganley and his helpers did a great job teaching these young lads the
skills of football as everyone knows it is hard to coach and control 43 under nines. Damon’s helpers were Ben Luteria,
Sean Cooper, Ben Lee, Maurie Rafanelli and Leigh Harvey. They have done a great job as they made sure all the
lads enjoyed their football. A big thank you to everyone who helped and the umpires.
To all the people who helped me out throughout the year in 2016 a big thank you
Bob Sard, Tony Mavillio, Graeme Woods, Tony Coombe, Brian Lines, Ray Schultz, John Jones, John Anderson, Stephen Murphy, Ern Rafanelli and anyone I missed. In summary my personal thanks to everyone for making 2016 a
great year for the Port Football Club Juniors

Building Redevelopment
We had moved appreciably forward with the building renovations but the late inclusion of SGL football being played at
the Port Oval has complicated the matter significantly. We have a budget of $1,130,000 consisting of our money of
$740,000, a grant from the Port Pirie Regional Council of $60,000 and a grant from the SGL of $40,000. Borrowings
will be $250,000 from the Commonwealth Bank and a $40,000 loan from the Council. The Board thanks our President
Midge in is his tireless efforts to obtain $100,000 in grants.
To accommodate football the Board decided to drop the front bar extension from the renovations but this has so far
failed to achieve the expected savings to free up funds for football related infrastructure. Over the coming weeks we
hope to have more savings made so that the project can proceed. Work on the change rooms and umpires rooms has
commenced and will be ready by the time the season starts.
Once the redevelopment is complete the Club will be looking at installing a modern beer dispensing system funded
with sponsorship from West End.
