Meet our staff:
Introducing
Tessa Dorman and
Helen Del Guzzo.
Wednesday 16
December 2015
Steady progress continues on all of the
landscaping and we are still heading for a
completion date in mid-December. Suzanne,
Nicole, Paul and Kate have spent two days
learning about the systems that will make our
school physically a wonderful place to learn in.
Whilst we were visiting all areas we noticed that
the play equipment has QR codes. I wonder if
your child can have a think about what these
codes might tell us?
Charles Weston School
App
Our school app is now available to
download. There are instructions
attached to this newsletter. The App
will have the ability for you to access
the newsletter, as well as a tool for
communication about events and
urgent information. It will also have
the ability for you to notify us if your
child is absent or if your contact
details change. I encourage you all to
download and access the App on a
mobile device.

the coming weeks and appreciate your thoughtful
input.

An interesting fact about myself: I have travelled
to Thailand 6 times!
Why I love teaching: I love hands on experiences
where children learn through doing.
My favourite quote is “Tell me and I forget, teach
me and I remember, involve me and I
understand” (Benjamin Franklin).
What I’m looking forward to about starting at
CWSC in 2016: I’m looking forward to building a
new community with the students and their
families.
Helen Del Guzzo
Classroom teacher
My hobbies and interests
include: Believe it or not,
learning! I am always
studying or reading
something to increase my
knowledge in a given
area.
Meet our staff
My favourite children’s
book or author: Duck and
the Darklings, by Glenda
Millard (at the moment).
Each week we will include the profile of a couple of
the teachers who will be
joining our team next year.
Interesting places I’ve travelled to: So far I have
only gone as far as New Zealand, but I hope to go
to southern Italy on my honeymoon.
Tessa Dorman
Classroom teacher
An interesting fact about myself: Before I came
to Canberra to study teaching, I was a bus driver
in Sydney.
https://goo.gl/al1ZR3
My hobbies/interests
include: Fitness and
exercising, travel and
cooking.
My favourite children’s
author is: Paul Jennings.
Interesting places I’ve travelled to: I have been
through Europe, Asia multiple times and America
once. My favourite place was sailing through the
Croatian Islands or my mum’s hometown
Velletri, Italy.
My favourite educational quote: Fair doesn’t
mean everybody getting the same thing. Fair
means everybody getting what they need to be
successful.
What I’m looking forward to about starting at
CWS in 2016: So many things! Mostly, though,
I’m excited about playing a part in creating and
maintaining a positive school culture.

School Board
Book Drive
Nominations for positions on the Charles Weston
School – Coombs School Board will open on Monday
1 February 2016 at 11:00am.
We are accepting any
donations of pre-loved or
new children’s books for
both the school library and
our classroom libraries.
We would especially love
any bilingual books as
these are always
challenging to source.
As we are a new school, we have three parent and
citizen positions and two staff member positions to
be filled.
One parent and citizen member term will be for 12
months with the other two positions for 2 years. The
staff member positions will be 12 months and 2 years
respectively.
The school board is responsible for the school’s
strategic direction and its functions include:
 Monitor and review school performance
 Develop, maintain and review curriculum for
the school
 Develop and review school policies
 Approve the school budget
If you are interested in being a part of the
governance of the Charles Weston School – Coombs,
please contact the Assistant Returning Officer,
Suzanne
Vincent
on

0404
or
[email protected]
for
more
information.
Back to School Resources
Student resource lists for 2016 will be made available
to parents early next week. These lists have been
carefully compiled by the teachers and will include
the consumable resources that students will need
throughout the year.
School Uniforms
The Uniform catalogue and order forms are available
on the school website for download. Uniforms can be
paid for at the time of ordering or on collection.
The school uniform will be worn by all students from
Preschool to Year 6.
It is preferable that socks are either white or navy
and shoes are comfortable and covered in. Shoes
should allow students to have adequate support and
also allow for sports activities.
We have just taken delivery of hair ties and hair
scrunchies in the dress fabric which parents will be
able to purchase if they wish.
We have already received some wonderful
donations. Our librarian Penny Day is looking forward
to sorting through these and completing the orders
for some new books.
If you have books you would like to donate, please
drop them in the green bin that will be located in the
administration building from mid-December.
