SHIPS & MISSIONS

JHSV, MLP
Changes since last year
• HQ Consolidation/Global Review
• Optimized Fleet Response Plan: CSGs on 36-month cycle to stabilize
maintenance, training, crew life - brings more predictability to MSC
maintenance for GO/GO ships
• JHSVs - Aluminum welding and ship-fitting skillsets; water jet
maintenance; annual dry-docking requirement
• Domestic oil production up – order book increase for tankers and
offshore craft – currently 85 U.S.-flagged tankers – 15 are MSC T-AOs
– more tanker maintenance
– increased competition for dock space
• Conversion work for repurposing platforms
• Your ideas about any of these points are always welcome

MSC M&R Budget
• MSC Spent $537.9M in FY 2013
• Competitively bid, fixed-price contracts
• Sequestration and declining budgets will
mean more competition for both new
construction and maintenance dollars

Out-Year Engineering Requirements Analysis
• Identifies essential and beneficial upgrades
• Allows budgeting/planning for ops past service life (avg. 45 years)
• Consists of 3 phases, integrated into a single report:
• Logistics Supportability Study - Determines equipment
replacement based on service life and spare parts availability
• Hull/ Structural Analysis - Calculates steel corrosion rates,
predicts steel renewal schedule, identifies high stress areas, and
predicts fatigue life
• Shipboard Survey – Consists of operational tests, material
condition surveys, maintenance and repair trend review, and
crew interviews
Issues are prioritized with a recommended solution,
cost estimate, and impact assessment
