A message from your Commander
Greetings!!
Well, it seems that we are heading into spring!! I for one am ready for winter to
be over but I’m sure we’ll have a couple more snowfalls just so “Old Man
Winter” can make one last stand!
Good news!! We have hired a new General Manager!! I don’t know about you,
but I’m more than ready to get our club going in the right direction! Her name is
Lindsey Green and she started a couple weeks ago! Please stop in and introduce
yourselves to her!
There are tons of events coming up and we are going to need lots of volunteers!
It seems that we are always depending on the same volunteers every year. We
can’t continue this way if we want to be a successful Post! We have over 1,100
members of this post and for some reason we can’t even get 20 people to come
to a meeting. Why is that? Let’s focus on getting more members involved in our
activities! I went to a Legion Post in Spotsylvania, VA this last weekend and I
found this poem on their membership table. Please take a moment to read this
and think about it what it says. It has been posted on our web site at
Post1776.com .
This is not meant as a shot or dig at anyone, it is not an attempt to make anyone
feel as though they are a lesser person or member of the American Legion. I also
know that we have more than a few members that, due to health or other
reasons, are not able or capable to leave their home or hospital to attend a
meeting, much less attend a dinner, dance or Legion Event. But, as your
Commander, I feel it is my responsibility to ask you a straight and honest
question.
Why did you join the American Legion Post 1776 Family? We are a FAMILY!!
We need to stick together to help all our veterans…young and old alike!
Don’t just sit on the sidelines…. Let’s do this together!!
Commander Carla

Greetings to all at Post 1776,
Welcome to all at Apple Valley Post 1776. The middle of February had some
very nice temps. Makes the winter go by a tad bit faster. Our February meat
raffle and horse races went very well and the SAL would like to thank all those
who made it go so well. Thank you for your support. We will be having a Chile
Cook off at the end of the month. There is a sign-up sheet on the board if you are
interested so get that recipe and sharpen it up. Spring is right around the corner
so hope you have some fabulous plans for the summer. Until next month, For
God and Country we stand tall!

Even though I haven’t met the new Club Manager yet, in conversations that I
have had with her, she seems to have several good ideas to help with
profitability. Did you know that by State statutes Gambling is forbidden from
using any monies on bar improvements that must come strictly from the Post
and Club proceeds?
Our Wednesday night Bingo has been a huge success, and for that I would like
to thank Leanne and the great group of sellers and callers. As far as callers go
we are working on that on an ongoing basis. If you know of any improvements
in the Booth or Bingo Operation drop me an email at [email protected]
and I will respond to your queries.
Well until next month, still serving Veterans and Community!

General News-Web Site - Post1776.com
January saw 3,357 unique visitors. Up from 2,559 in December. The Post 1776 web site is exceeding
expectations for both visits and the utility it brings to members and non-members alike. The number one
download from the web site is our full menu (yes it is online!) and that is followed by our newsletters.
Auxiliary
Greetings from the Ladies Auxiliary….Thanks to all of the American Legion members that supported our
Annual Valentine Omelet Breakfast & Bake Sale; we had a great turn-out. Thanks also to the many
volunteers.
On Friday, March 3rd we are going to the Hastings Veterans Home for a Bingo/Pizza Party. The bus will be
leaving the Post at 6:00 PM, there is a sign-up sheet on the Auxiliary Bulletin Board, if you would like to go,
or donate pop, bars or cookies. We always have a good time, and the Veterans really enjoy our visit.
On Saturday, March 11th starting at 12:00 Noon, the Auxiliary will have Meat Raffles & Horse Racing --- this
is always a good time so hope to see a lot of you there.
It’s great to be part of the American Legion Family, and we are always looking for new members if you

Our New Club Manager:- Linsey green
Linsey came from Vivo where she was employed for 3 years. She has over 25 years’ experience in the food
service industry. She started working as a server when she was 14 years old and worked her way up to office
manager, floor manager and then to an Assistant General Manager position. Although she graduated from
the U of M in Psychology, working in restaurants has always been her passion. She looks forward to
working with veterans, staff and the public to build sales and make the Apple Valley American Legion the
best that it can be.
She resides in Apple Valley with her husband JD, daughter Jadyn (12) and son Jackson (16). She enjoys
watching her son play football and daughter dance. Spending time at the family cabin, fishing and boating is
a great past time as well.
Her father is a Vietnam War Vet and her husband served in Desert Storm. She feels honored to work at the
Apple Valley American Legion!

Scouting Update
Troop 205 has been very busy with community service and fun events with our scouts. We had 16 scouts and
4 adults spend an overnight at Northern Star Council’s Base Camp and participated in rock climbing,
archery, gaga ball, basketball, high ropes and other fun activities. In addition we had two groups of 13 scouts
and 6 adults travel to SnowBase in Birchwood, WI on two separate weekends in February. These groups
participated in a snow huskies and a draft horse program. The scouts came back home with non-stop
excitement and are looking forward to doing this again next year.
On February 6th our Troop had 12 scouts and 8 adults participate in the Feed My Starving Children Mega
Pack event. They prepared rice packs for countries in need. An additional group of 5 scouts and 2 adults
helped with the same packing event on February 11th.
The Troop held it’s Court of Honor on February 13th and a total of 29 merit badges and 2 ranks were
awarded. The summer camping program was announced and plans are in place for the remainder of the year
for monthly camp outs.
The Troop will be holding a welcome meeting on March 6th for 8 new Cub Scouts that are bridging to Boy
Scouts. These scouts are bridging from 3 different packs. The bridging ceremonies will take place the week
of February 20th.

What is the Preamble and What Does it Mean? (Part 10/11)
“TO SAFEGUARD AND TRANSMIT TO POSTERITY THE PRINCIPLES OF JUSTICE, FREEDOM
AND DEMOCRACY...”
All of the youth-training programs of the American Legion are built on this ideal of safeguarding and
transmitting to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy. All Americans can be proud
that in our international relations we have tried to live by the golden rule, the mark of justice. We have
granted to others, as we prize it ourselves, the great boon of freedom. Through the Monroe Doctrine,
we call a halt to foreign imperialism in the Western Hemisphere. We gave freedom to the Philippines.
These principles are part of the American heritage. Legionnaires are pledged to protect and preserve
that heritage.
