Career Profile / US
As a Producer with 18 years experience in Film, TVC, Drama, Corporate and Factual
production in NZ, the UK and the USA, I have filmed in pretty much every kind of
environment you can imagine. On my very first job I was tasked with sourcing 400
sprats & a mackerel in under 2 hours from a hundred miles away. Twice.
Before coming to New Zealand, I was based in the
USA, line producing on the large scale mechanical
entertainment show Full Metal Challenge, with
shoots across North & South America, Australia, NZ
and China. I then relocated to England for the main
production phase on the largest TV Set in Europe.
After 10 years in Broadcast TV, I moved back into Film & TVC work 8 years ago and
have since looked after over 100 local and international TVCs, Promos and Digital
Projects, covering brands and products from fire to fish burgers and from soft
drinks to even softer sandy beaches.
These productions have involved collaborating with directors and production
houses including 8com, Assembly, Big Pictures, Blacksand, Blind Pilot, Cirkus,
Cranbrook Films, Film360, Finch, Flying Fish, Flying Start, Gorgeous Films, Play
Studio, PillowTalk, The Sweet Shop and TOYBOX.
I also work closely with Agencies such as BCG2, Brandmad, Colenso BBDO, Droga5,
Ethnic, Harvey Cameron, Logan Brooke, Magnet, M&C Saatchi, Ogilvy, Orange
Productions, Raydar, Running With Scissors, Saatchi & Saatchi, Shine, Special Group,
Switch and Waxeye. During 2011, I spent 9 months as a Producer for Ogilvy/Film360.
When I arrived in NZ in 2003, I worked as a freelance Producer on high profile
factual productions such as Motorway Patrol, Coastwatch and SCU: Serious Crash
Unit. In addition I have kept my kids happy by line producing The Amazing
Extraordinary Friends for TV2 and The MOE Show for FOUR..

My production company Sprout TV is a small but perfectly formed digital
production company specialising in fast turnaround content for clients across New
Zealand, Australia and the USA.
We also provide line production, project management and crewing services for
International TV Shows coming to film in NZ. A second chopper? No problem.
I was also the Co-Ordinating Producer on the awardwinning Faking It USA for US network TLC, shooting
simultaneously in LA, SF, Atlanta, NY & Arizona.
In 2001, I led a team sent to California to set up an
office for UK super-indie RDF Media. The task was to
build a production house from scratch & co-ordinate
transfering commissions from the UK.
Starting with a suitcase full of cash & not much else,
I acted as Head of Production during the first year,
supervising productions for US Networks including
ABC, USA Networks and The Learning Channel.

In the early days, I started as everyone should - in
charge of photocopies, sandwiches and coffee.
I learnt my trade as a staff Production Manager at
RDF Media (now Zodiak Media) in London, working
on landmark productions such as engineering
challenge show Scrapheap Challenge and the genre
defining Shipwrecked.

I joined the jolly old Cub Scouts at the age of 8 and
stayed through Scouts and Venture Scouts until
being finally being told that I was too old to wear
shorts at 20. The solution was to complete my
Leadership training and run the Venture Scout Unit
of a ‘Royal Navy Recognized’ Sea Scout Group.

Work took me away from regular involvement at
the age of 21, but I have always carried with me the
experiences and knowledge gained from my time
involved in the Scout Movement. For me, this is one
of the world’s foremost – and generally unrecognised
– personal development and leadership training
schemes for young people.
During this time, I learnt a variety of practical skills
including boating, mountain climbing, orienteering,
ropework and survival skills, plus an understanding
of motivational techniques, people management,
decision making and a great deal about myself. Being
in charge of a group of 13-15 year olds stranded
in remote mountain country during a storm that
grounded RAF Search & Rescue Helicopters gave me
a taste of real responsibility at the tender age of 16.
My involvement with the Venture Scouts also led
to the opportunity to represent my country, as part
of the British team competing at the 1999 World
Dragonboat Championships in Japan. We didn’t win,
I’m pretty sure that the Japanese did though.
