Figurative Language:
Metaphor and Simile.
Figurative Language: is poetic language that employs figures of speech such as metaphor,
simile, or any other figure of speech.
Figure of speech: is any way of saying something other than the ordinary way.
Metaphor: is a figure of speech in which an implicit comparison is made between two things
essentially unlike. For example: * She is an angel
* Life is a brief candle.
Simile: is a figure of speech in which an explicit comparison is made between two things
essentially unlike. The comparison is made explicit by the use of some words or phrases as like,
as, similar to, resembles, or seems.
For example: * He is brave like a lion * She is shining as a star.
 Examples of metaphor and simile:
*Her eyes are jewels sparkling in the sun. “Metaphor”
*Her eyes are as shiny as jewels in the sun. “Simile”
*The harvest moon is a great pumpkin in the sky. “Metaphor”
*The moon during harvest looks like a great pumpkin in the sky. “Simile”
