Here is some additional information about the alternate course if you are curious: Race Website: http://www.aravaiparunning.com/network/blackcanyon/alternate-black-canyon-courseinfo/ Course Sweep Information Our course sweeps are very important for two reasons. You are the final sweep of the race course to make sure runners are all through each aid station and someone out there who can communicate information back to headquarters if there are any issues. Sweep starting from Soap Creek, you also will be clearing all course markers, signs, flagging and litter on course. Sweeps starting from Mayer to Soap Creek, you will NOT pull signs or markers as runners will need those to navigate the 2nd half of the course. We recommend bringing a daypack with some capacity for carrying signage with you as well as water and food. It is a good idea to bring a charged cell phone with our phone numbers programmed in just in case you need to reach us and give updates to your location. Please refer to the race day provided map when you check in for your shift. It is incredibly important at this race that you make 100% sure all gates are closed and secure as you pass through them. We want to continue our good relationship with the Black Canyon Trail and surrounding lands and that includes making sure the ranchers see no cause for concern for future races. The Bumble Bee sweep will begin from Mayer High School and run back to the Bumble Bee aid station at mile 19.5 following the 100KM Course. The Bumble Bee to Soap Creek sweeps will start at 2:00PM from the Bumble Bee aid station and follow the 100K course for 11.4 miles to Soap Creek Aid Station. Sweeps will not pull markers from the course, but will pickup trash and ensure the last runner reaches the aid station. The Soap Creek to Bumble Bee sweeps will start at 5PM from the Soap Creek aid station and follow the 100K course for 11.4 miles to Bumble Bee Aid Station. Sweeps will pull markers and pickup trash. The Bumble Bee to Antelope Mesa will start at 8:45PM from the Bumble Bee aid station and follow the 100k/60k course for 11.9 miles to the Antelope Mesa aid station. The Antelope Mesa to finish sweep will start at 12:30AM from the Antelope Mesa aid station and follow the course for 7.3 miles to the finish. Again, thank you and we will see you on race day! It is important to not crease, or fold the timing chip to ensure your finish time is read. Once you cross the finish line, your results will be displayed on ultrasignup.com with your finish time, place and distance completed. Drop bags will be delivered back to the start/finish line after the respective aid station closes. Crews Crews are allowed at the race start and finish as well as at the Antelope Mesa, Hidden Treasure Mine, and Bumble Bee. No crewing or support may be provided outside of those designated aid stations. Aid Station Helpers We cannot produce these trail runs without the help of our amazing volunteer team. If you are interested in helping with the Black Canyon Ultras, we have opportunities to help with setup, registration, aid stations, finish line, course sweep and breakdown. All volunteers will receive an Aravaipa Running shirt and a discount on a future race entry! You can even help and run on race day. Sign Up Here Course Markings The race courses will be well marked with orange plastic ribbons with black polka dots. Trail junctions and turns will be well marked with colored laminated signs. In addition, blue & white checkerboard plastic flagging will be hung to designate non-race or “WRONG WAY” trails. All runners are responsible for understanding the layout of the courses. Please familiarize yourself with the course maps on our website prior to race day and/or print a map to bring along with you.
