FEDERAL STATE UNITARY ENTERPRISE “CENTRAL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AUTOMOBILE
AND AUTOMOTIVE ENGINE INSTITUTE” OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION “NAMI” is the
leading Russian state research centre in the field of automotive industry, founded in
1918.
The history of the foundation and development of «NAMI» is tightly linked with the
history of the Russian national automobile industry. During the lifetime of the
institute, its staff done great contribution to the development of the national
automobile industry, manufacturing of tractors and engine‐building for road vehicles
and aviation and greatly influenced the scientific progress in these fields.

2014‐2017 The undeniable fact that the vital functions of the state and national security has
been served with vehicles of mostly domestic manufacture is the result of the
institute's work in cooperation with the industry. The scientists and design engineers
of the institute were directly involved in the creation, testing and putting into the
mass production of practically all Russian vehicles, from the first passenger cars to
heavy‐duty trucks, such as KAMAZ, MAZ, KrAZ, BelAZ and other, many engines and
tractors.
Since its foundation FSUE "NAMI" has gained rich experience in the design and
creation of vehicles and their components. In 2012, the institute structure was
reorganized and acquired a design‐focused profile in accordance with the market

From 2003 FSUE NAMI is the main Testing provider of Russian automotive industry according the EEC UN rules.

Contract
At 2013 NAMI was defined as leader of UMP project.
The project product, according to the government contract, is
families of domestic vehicles designed on the unified modular
platform base, produced in the Russian Federation territory,
intended for transportation, escort and support of the state top
officials and other persons subjected to the state protection as
well as for a wide segment of customers in the commercial
market.

Started in 2013, project got code “Cortege”,
following the request of Russian top state
authorities to transport, escort, support and
defend top Russian state officials and other
persons subject to the state protection.
In 2014 project was open by Ministry
of Industry and Trade of Russian Federation for
application on the commercial market of
Exclusive, Premium and Business cars segment,
that became the starting point of project under
"UMP” (Unified Modular Platform) code.

Current status
Up to the beginning of 2016 the bench
test of engine and gear box was
launched, own assembling facilities are
ready. First prototype cars are
assembled, the test drives process at
NAMI proving ground in Moscow region
launched already.
