EVENT IDEAS

TEAM LEADER GUIDE:
EVENT IDEAS
•
Host a car wash. Get your team together and find a great spot, get all your washing
supplies, make some fun signs to promote your event and then get to scrubbing! Try
suggesting customers pay for their car wash in outfit orders.
•
A Different Kind of Clothing Drive at your school. Get your classmates together, even
involve teachers and administration, and encourage your school help kids across the
world!
•
Have a garage sale. Organize a garage sale with items donated from friends and family
and have the proceeds go towards your team. You could even price items in units of “kids
outfits”.
•
Sporting events. Try teaming up with local sporting events like football or soccer games.
See if you can collect donations for childrenʼs clothing at the door or even do a half-time
presentation to tell the crowd about your team and the GO Threads initiative.
•
Organize a benefit concert. If you have personal connections to musical talent, ask them
to have a benefit concert to support your team. Find a place, get the required permits and
tell everyone about it. Sell snacks/beverages with proceeds going to clothe kids.
•
Chili cook-off. Organize a chili cook-off and ask people to bring their “famous” chili recipe
and judge the event.
•
Butler/Maid Auction. This is a great way to serve others. Find a group of people willing to
be auctioned off to the highest bidder to serve as a personal butler or maid for the day. Bid
in units of $20.
•
Organize a golf tournament. Ask participants to pay the fee to golf 18 or 9 holes plus a
$20 order for entry. See if the golf course would be willing to give you a discount to golf or
find sponsors to cover each golferʼs fee so their entire entry could go to clothing kids.
•
Potluck. Invite friends or family to a potluck meal. This involves each person bringing a
dish or drink to the party to share buffet style with guests. Have each guest make a $20
kidsʼ clothing order to come.
•
Special Occasions. If you have a birthday, wedding, anniversary or other special
occasion during the 2012 Team Challenge, ask for contributions to your team instead of
gifts. Ask your team members to do the same.
•
Holidays. This Christmas ask for a gift that makes a difference in the lives of children and
communities around the world and see if your team members are willing to do the same.
•
Coordinate a run, walk or disc golf competition. Find a place, get the required permits,
and tell everyone about your race. Encourage your participants to form teams and see
which team can raise the most support for kids!
•
Darts/Pool Tournament. Organize a dart or pool tournament and invite your friends to
donate to enter.
•
White Elephant Party. Charge admission plus a white elephant gift at the door and have
fun exchanging gifts at a party with a purpose.
