ADV. DIARY ASSIGNMENT To go with our studies of Anne Frank, you will keep a diary. You may take on the role of your own made-up character or use one of the suggestions below. CHARACTER OPTIONS: o Anne Frank o Anyone who is in hiding with Anne (Mr. Frank, Mrs. Frank, Margot, Mr. Van Daan, Mrs. Van Daan, Peter, Mr. Dussel) o An alien/Martian o A character from a video game o TV character o Pokemon (or similar character) o Comic book character o Fairy tale character o A character from a (different) book that you are reading As your character, you will write well-developed paragraphs of 6-10 sentences about ANY EIGHT (8) of the fourteen topics listed below as they relate to YOU. Keep your work neat. [You do not have to write about the topics in the order that they are listed.] The finished diary is due Friday, November 13, 2015. You will present your diary as a booklet OR as a PowerPoint that you will share with the class. The diaries will be presented on Monday, November 16th. This assignment will be a Summative Grade. Please set up each entry with the given topic (title), the date, and then your paragraph as such: Best Birthday 11-3-15 Your Paragraph No Gifts 11-6-15 Your paragraph WRITING TOPICS Best Birthday – Write about your best birthday or your best day or the best gift you ever received. Three Prized Items – Write about the three most important items you would want to take with you if you and your family had to go into hiding as the Franks did. Do not include people. Small Space – Write about how Anne feels being in hiding in a small space as well as how you think the others feel. How would YOU feel if you were in Anne’s shoes? Like Anne – Make a chart in which you compare and contrast yourself with Anne. You need 4-6 similarities and 4-6 differences. Rules – Write about the “rules” for living in your house / with your family. Are there certain times when you eat dinner/turn on the TV/do homework? What are the procedures for taking out the trash, doing dishes, completing other chores? Poem – Write a poem to or about someone (or something) you love. The poem should be 8-15 lines long; it may rhyme but doesn’t have to. No Gifts – Write about how you would feel if you received no gifts for Christmas or your next birthday. What gifts could you get someone else if you could not buy anything for him/her? Changes – Write about how you have changed since the beginning of sixth grade (or other significant time/event). What has caused these changes? Odd Man Out – Write about a time when you felt different or left out. Explain the event(s) and your feelings. Prejudice – Write about any racial or religious prejudice that you have seen, heard about, or read about in the world today. Older Generation – Write about how you think the older generation views kids today. Include an explanation and give examples. New Home/School – Write about what you would change in your home or in your school if you were in charge. Explain why you would make those particular changes. Letter to Anne – Write a letter to Anne Frank. What would you want to say to her or ask her? Free Write – Write about anything that is on your mind. (You can do TWO Free Writes.)
