Reading through the summer will help your students retain the skills they learned and be
better prepared for the start of the new school year!
Give each student a Summer Reading Adventure pack and they will get four or more books
at their reading level that were written with their literacy development in mind. Additional
components help motivate students to read, learn, and seek out further reading.

include book-specific activities for every title, a parent letter, a
reading log, sealable storage bag*, bookmark*, and stickers*.

Dear Parent or Guardian,
Many children experience learning losses when they don’t read during the
summer. Our goal is to beat this “summer slide” by giving your child motivating
books and materials for a Summer Reading Adventure!
Your child’s adventure pack has books and activities to encourage reading
over the summer. We’ve chosen a variety of topics so your child can read fun
stories and learn interesting information. Studies show that children who read
four or more books over the summer do better on reading tests at the start of
the new school year.
When your child finishes a book have him/her place a sticker on the “Reading
Passport” reading log included in the pack. Then sign the box next to that title
to confirm the book was completed. You can add any additional books your
child reads to the ‘passport’. Each child is expected to bring the completed
“Reading Passport” reading log to school at the start of the new school year
to share his/her Summer Reading Adventure with other students!
Ideas for reading with your child:
 Read aloud to your child, even if your child reads independently.
 Have your child read to you or another family member.
 Bring books or magazines on car or train rides.
 Visit your local library or bookstores.
 Let your child choose books he/she likes to read.
