2011 Census of Population: Population and Dwelling Counts - Interlake Region _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2011 Census of Population Interlake Region Population Counts (March 22, 2012) The Interlake region of Manitoba experienced a slight increase in population and was responsible for only 3.4% of the provincial growth. According to Statistics Canada, the population of the Interlake region totaled 88,854 in May 2011, up 2,046 (2.4%) over the 2006 count. Both rural and urban communities reported gains, with the rural municipalities of St. Clements, West St. Paul and St. Andrews accounting for most of the regional growth. Population counts in this region are influenced by the fact that the Indian reserve of Brokenhead 4 was incompletely enumerated for the 2011 Census. In 2006 the reserve recorded 467 residents. Compared to the 2006 Census, the RM of St. Clements gained 799 residents (8.2%), while the RMs of West St. Paul and St. Andrews had increases of 575 (13.2%) and 516 (4.5%) people, respectively. More moderate increases were reported in the city of Selkirk (up 319, or 3.4%), the RM of East St. Paul (up 313, or 3.6%) and the RM of Rockwood (up 272, or 3.5%). Just over one-third of the communities in the Interlake reported losses. The RM of Fisher had the largest impact on the regional population change, with a decrease of 240 residents (12.3%) compared to the 2006 count. The RMs of St. Laurent decreasing by 149 people (10.2%), and Siglunes, decreasing by 120 residents (8.1%), experienced smaller losses. For a detailed listing of communities in this region, please see the Table 2 on the next page. Following Table 2 is a map of the region displaying the communities by percent growth. Lastly, a map of Manitoba showing the percent growth by region is provided.
