LOUIS VENUES (DETAILED INFORMATION) The Peabody Opera House / Shen Yun For Chinese, the words evoke a sense of wonder, magic, and the divine. To audiences who have seen it, they recall the experience of a lifetime—a moment so powerfully beautiful it touches the soul. Discover the glory of a fantastically rich culture, that of classical China, brought to life through brilliantly choreographed dance and mesmerizing, all-original orchestral compositions. Magnificently costumed dancers—the world’s elite—move in poetic arrangements that evoke pastoral beauty, imperial drama, and the glory of an ancient civilization. This season, discover what art was meant to be. Discover Shen Yun. City Museum Housed in the 600,000 square-foot former International Shoe Company, the museum is an eclectic mixture of children's playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel made out of unique, found objects. The brainchild of internationally acclaimed artist Bob Cassilly, a classically trained sculptor and serial entrepreneur, the museum opened for visitors in 1997 to the riotous approval of young and old alike. The Museum of Westward Expansion The Museum of Westward Expansion, located below the Arch, is as large as a football field and contains an extensive collection of artifacts, mounted animal specimens, an authentic American Indian tipi, and an overview of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Mississippi River Riverboat Ride Learn about the history of the St. Louis Riverfront, the Mississippi River, the Gateway Arch and all of the fascinating historic sites along the way. The captain narrates the cruise aboard the Tom Sawyer or Becky Thatcher riverboats. The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial (Gateway Arch) Ride one of two unique trams inside the legs of the Arch. Each tram consists of eight barrel-shaped capsules with each capsule holding five passengers. Your journey starts 50 feet underground and ends 630 feet above the St. Louis riverfront. Historic Old Court House In 1940, the city of St. Louis deeded the Old Courthouse to the Federal Government. Today, this nineteenthcentury courthouse features restored courtrooms, a decorated dome, Dioramas, the "Gateway To The West" film and galleries depicting the history of St. Louis.
