lost or damaged books. For families of Eighth

a couple after-school practices. Please let Mrs. Lucas

Prayer is Powerful
Our first prayer meeting started last Wednesday and will
continue every Wednesday that we are in school at 7:30

Pearls of Love and Logic
For the next few weeks, I will be posting items from
the Love and Logic One Year Plan for Success in
School.
Have your children bring home papers. Look at the
right answers instead of the wrong ones. Don’t
correct the wrong answers-leave this for the
teacher. Have children explain the reasons for the
answers being right.
Reach One
Teach One
Ascension is in the midst of our campaign for new
students for the 2010-2011 school year, please take
a minute to think of one student that you could refer
to Ascension. Just give us that student’s contact
information and we would be happy to contact them
and invite them to visit Ascension. Remember for
every child that you bring to Ascension and
enrolls for the year you get a $500 referral credit.
If you have not re-enrolled for next school year,
please remember spaces are limited and new
students are being tested and accepted into the
“Whose We Are–Who We Are”
Ascension Lutheran Church offers a review of the basics
of our Christian faith for all, and a new member class for
those wishing to join our congregation. This would also
be a great way to find out more about what our church
teaches. The class is held on Sunday mornings at 9:30
AM.
Miss Williams
Miss Williams has notified me that she will be moving
out of the area this summer and will not be returning to
teach second grade next year. We will miss her and
thank her for her service to Ascension.
Ascension is in the process of accepting resumes for
teaching position for next school year. We already have
a few qualified candidates for the two positions. We
trust that God will bring the best people forward for
these positions, just as He has in the past.

RE: Costumes for our
Spring Arts Evening on Tuesday, May 25, 2010
DATE: Monday, April 26, 2010
On Tuesday, May 25, at 7:30 p.m., the Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students will be taking part our
.
lower school SPRING ARTS EVENING As part of this very special evening that highlights the visual and
performing arts in which your child has been participating here at Ascension, your child will be performing
several musical selections with his/her classmates. A vital part of every successful show is costuming. The
assistance of every parent with the costuming of their child is CRUCIAL and will be needed. YOU are
responsible for seeing that your child has the proper costume for this performance. The theme for this year’s
show is “COMEDY TONIGHT!” The songs will highlight comedy, circuses and clowns. Therefore, we are
asking all of the children to dress as a character that you might find in a circus. Some ideas include:
1) A Clown - This includes several different types of clowns, including the following:
a) A “Ronald McDonald” clown in a clown suit with big wig, nose, etc.
b) A “Hobo” clown that is wearing a worn-out, oversized suit and tie and hat with a flower in the hat
or on the jacket lapel.
c) A “Mismatched” clown wearing mismatched clothing such as plaid pants, a polka dot shirt and a
striped tie or vest
d) A “Keystone Cop” clown wearing an oversized police uniform and hat, etc.
2) A Ballerina in a sequined ballerina outfit (tights and tutu)
3) A Tightrope Walker or Acrobat or Juggler in tights or leotard and/or tank top . A cape on top of outfit is
also a nice addition. Can be a girl or boy.
4) A Native American Indian in Native American clothing and headdress
5) A Cowboy or Cowgirl in a cowboy/cowgirl hat and fringed vest and plaid shirt and bandana, etc.
6) A Circus “Ringmaster” in a brightly colored tail coat with bright colored tie and top hat, with sequins, etc.
7) A “Lion or Animal Tamer” in khaki colored safari garb with safari hat, etc.
8) Elephant and Horse Riders - Bright, sequined outfits
9) Popcorn Seller - A striped jacket or shirt and suspendors with hat, etc.
10) Motorcyle Riders - The “Evil Knievel” motorcyle look with a cape.
11) Animals - Dress up like a circus animal like a tiger, lion, bear, horses, elephants, etc.
12) Strong Man - Dress up in an outfit with big, bulging muscles.
13) A “Bearded” Lady
14) Tattoo Artist
15) A Pirate - with the bandana and eye patch and pirate hat, etc.
16) A Prince or Princess or a King or Queen
17) Bullfighter or “Matador” outfit with cape
18) “Carmen Miranda” outfit
19) Spanish Flamenco Dancer Outfit
20) “Can-Can” Dancer Outift
21) A Circus “Barker” or “Ticket Seller” - Bright colored jacket and bowtie and straw hat.
GENERAL NOTE: The costumes should be as bright and as colorful as possible. Use big, bold contrasting
colors and crazy wild patterns. Add flair to the costume with sequins, feathers, glitter, gloves, hats,
jewelry, etc. HAVE FUN and BE CREATIVE!! You should not have to go to the store to make your
costume. In fact, the best costumes are often the ones that are made using old or borrowed items and a
lot of creativity and imagination. Be creative with your child and THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX!!!
