REMINDERS TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 15TH. Uniform top light blue

Term 3 Week 6
28 August 2015
Kia Ora te whanau,
Good afternoon Salford Community,
Hopefully spring is just around the corner and the sunny days will outnumber the rainy cold ones very soon.
This week we welcome Shirley Ah-Wan (Harebottle) back to Salford. Shirley is relieving in Room 6 for five
weeks while Nicole Dawson explores Europe.
We also have Chantelle Gibbs in Room 9 on full control for the rest of the term. Chantelle is a third Year
trainee teacher on her final posting before she is provisionally registered. Tracy Jones, while not in the
classroom, will be working with small groups to accelerate learning for a number of children.
This week has been a great week with Polyfest on Wednesday showcasing the dedication of the Kapa Haka
group in working hard to put on a great performance. Salford School is very proud of this group. Not only did
they perform very well, they looked fantastic as well in their new costumes, thanks to funding from the PTA and
ILT Foundation. Very special thanks to Jan Bartlett and Monique Mair for the hours of work they put into
preparing the group to such a high standard.
This week in our professional learning programme, the appraisal system for staff has been revisited and revised
to meet the requirements of the NZ Teachers Council now called EDUCANZ. Teachers are required to show
evidence of good practice on a regular basis against the criteria set out in the Professional Standards.
Natalie Kerr outlined the progress and presented the data to staff on the outcomes of the ALL programme.
Students who have been part of the Accelerating Literacy Learning programme, that has been running in the
school this year, have made excellent progress. Natalie and Paula Wheeler attended a workshop in
Christchurch this week to go over the outcomes of the programme. The strategies used to accelerate this
group of students, are shared with all staff members.
Please note parents – we cannot carry the costs of participation in ‘Out of
School’ activities such as water polo, miniball etc so please make sure the fees
are included with the registration form. You may pay all sports fees by an
automatic payment if
arrangements are made at the
office.

PTA NOTEBOOK
At the end of a very busy week, we would like to thank all of you who stepped up to help when
our regular helpers were unwell, or were looking after their unwell children.
Well done House Captains, for a very well run disco last night, great decision making - check out
the photo and article in the Southland Times, and to the Kapa Haka helpers and performers, well
done! A lot of time and effort have been put in by many, for the children to polish their act and
enjoy their performing. Again grateful thanks to the ILT foundation and all of you who were able
to support the Easter Raffle, in which we raised enough money to outfit the children in new uniforms. This is a
valuable asset for years to come.
Today, the eldest child in your family will be bringing home the latest fundraising information, please return all forms
by Friday 11 September, sold or unsold. In order to be successful receiving community funding for projects, we have
to show as much effort as possible to raise some of the funds necessary.
The PTA notice board is in the office block, in the foyer to the left of the front desk. We have a display of samples
from one of our fundraisers, Ginger Pye. Please do have a look at them and maybe you can think outside the square
beyond the culinary reaches of the kitchen, for our Fundraise plus food wraps, (glad wrap, tin foil and baking
paper), and add your fantastic idea to our slightly interactive "card" board
display.
The ideas so far include,
With the glad wrap type wrap
Making luggage tamper proof
To wrap painting equipment in during tea breaks
For house movers to wrap around furniture etc
To have in your practical joke box for occasions that may
arise.
Tin foil ideas
For a young person with a robot /car building future that
begins with tinfoil covered boxes?
A gift for a Sci-fi friend who is concerned about unwanted
alien thought control
Be prepared for the next Hangi or BBQ you have planned
Part of a costume for the next dress up party. (Unless you are concerned about someone wearing the same
dress as you.)
For the serious fisherperson whose catches are always "this big" NEXT PTA MEETING.
Baking paper
Line kitchen shelves with it
(Yeah....we do need a few more ideas here.....
Wednesday: 2nd September 2015
Time: 7:30pm
Venue: Staff Room
We are looking forward to seeing your ideas!
The PTA will have prizes for the three top selling families.
Kind regards
On behalf of the PTA,
