Metaphor
Ex) Metaphor- “We were already accustomed to rumors of this kind. It was not the first time a false
prophet had foretold to us peace-on-earth, negotiations-with-the-Red-Cross-for-our-release, or other
false rumors. . . .And often we believed them. It was an injection of morphine” (pg. 76).
----------------------------------------------------*For Simile and Metaphor, make sure you know WHAT is being compared. You don’t have to write that
part out, but I want to make sure you are aware of what two things are being compared.
Ex) In the metaphor above the author is comparing how “rumors” gave them a feeling of hope and took
away some of the pain of the reality of their situation, in the way that “morphine” takes away physical
pain.
