on the back of this instructional handout. Please follow the complete instructions for your
project and become familiar with the grading rubric.
Instructions: Your portfolio will be placed and organized together beginning with a title
page with the required specifications. The next three items in your portfolio will be from
the mandatory list followed by three items from the optional list. Make sure these items
are in order and neatly organized. All pages in your portfolio will be the size of a
standard sheet of paper measuring 8.5 x 11 inches and will be stapled together at the top
left corner of the portfolio.
Include the following parts to your WWI Portfolio
Title Page: The title page will contain the following information: Title (WWI Portfolio),
Name, Date (March 13, 2007), and Period. All of this information will be centered in the
middle of the page surrounded by a collage of drawings, photo’s, magazine or newspaper
clippings, and any other visual aids that represent WWI (be creative).
Mandatory List of Items: The following three items must be included in your portfolio
(in order) to receive full credit.

brief synopsis of the WWI political cartoon understanding why the artist created
the cartoon and outline the basic suggestions portrayed in the cartoon.
Optional List (you must pick 3 out of 5):
1. Diary of a soldier, civilian, or P.O.W. (prisoner of war): Using your knowledge of
conditions in Europe during WWI complete a diary/ journal entry in 1st person
that explains a day in the life of one of these individuals. No less than 1 page
written or ½ page typed.
2. Menu for a day: Create a menu for a family of four using the correct social jargon
for different foods (example: liberty cabbage). Make sure you take into
consideration the rationing of certain foods by the government in order to support
the war effort. Research the price of food at this time and place the correct price
beside each item on your menu. Include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
3. Design a war bond poster: In order for the U.S. to support a war in Europe the
finances had to be right. Research war bond posters during WWI and create your
own on an 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet of paper. Make sure you use a catch phrase and
be creative but historically accurate.
4. Timeline: Create a timeline beginning with the causes of WWI and ending with
the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. You must include at least 6 main events on
your timeline. Label the events A, B, C, D, E, and F; below the time line list the
events by letter and briefly explain the who, what, when, where, and why of each
event.
5. Super Duper Venn: Create a complex Venn diagram following the example
below. Use the leaders Wilson, Clemenceau, and Loyd George as topics for each
circle. Place the opinions of each leader in the correct circle on how they wanted
to finalize the end of WWI with war reparations and world politics. How did they
differ? How did they agree?
