KS2 – AWSOME EGYPTIANS
How was society organised in
Ancient Egypt?
Enquiry Questions
Why was the River Nile so important?
How were the pyramids built?
National Curriculum
As historians, we will be learning how to use different artefacts and
sources of evidence to find out about life in Ancient Egypt. They will be
focusing on how Egyptians lived, why the River Nile was so important
and why they believed in so many different gods.
As designers, we will be designing, making and evaluating a structure
based on an Ancient Egyptian building or temple. In order to achieve this
they will be researching the type of building they want to build before
putting together a strong structure with a right angle join. They will also
be learning how to saw wood for their structure.
As scientists, we will be exploring movement and forces, comparing how
things move on different surfaces. As part of this unit the children will be
learning how to improve the way they record the results of their
investigations.
As musicians, we will be finding out about what is known about music in
Ancient Egypt. Our musical focus will be rhythm and duration of sounds.
To embed this, we will be composing a piece of music that could be
used to represent one of the Egyptian gods. As part of this the children
will be creating ‘ostinato’ which means repeating patterns with tuned and
percussion instruments.
