Add D-Luciferin free acid (10 mg) to 0.50-1.0 mL of oxygen-free water (sparge water). 2) Add either 2.95 mg of sodium bicarbonate or 3.50 mg of potassium bicarbonate. 3) Allow the mixture to stir for 30 minutes under an inert atmosphere. The mixture should be a yellow solution. Caution: If too much sodium or potassium bicarbonate is added to D-Luciferin free acid, the mixture will become oxidized and the chiral purity may be affected.
