Green, Ph.D. (updated 8/17/2016) – page 6 CLINICAL INNOVATIONS o Biofeedback for Impulse Control Deficits and Cravings I am in the process of evaluating the efficacy of biofeedback training in conjunction with a cognitive-behavioral intervention to help individuals better regulate their emotional responses to arousing stimuli. This intervention is being delivered to two groups of participants: those who report difficulty with impulsivity and those who report difficulty with cravings for alcohol or drugs. o Relationships in Recovery I developed this manual-guided relationship skills intervention that integrates various evidence-based techniques in a recovery framework and was designed to be delivered in group or individual format. This intervention was attends to multiple types of relationships and focuses on the interplay between interpersonal relationships and recovery efforts. This novel relationship skills training program for individuals in recovery from substance use and mental health disorders has improved the quality of treatment for Veterans and has been delivered in individual and group format in both residential and outpatient treatment programs in the VA Boston Healthcare System. Clinical research on its effectiveness is ongoing. Additionally, I am in the process of preparing a self-help book based on the client workbook that I use in clinical practice. o Intensive Alcohol and Drug Addiction Program of Treatment (I-ADAPT) I developed the procedures and content for this intensive outpatient program for substance use disorders. This manual-guided treatment program integrates multiple modalities of evidence-based therapies (e.g. cognitivebehavioral, motivational, contingency management, interpersonal, mindfulness, acceptance). The development and implementation of this new intensive outpatient treatment program has improved the quality and continuity of care for Veterans in VA Boston. Program evaluation and clinical research efforts are ongoing. o Implementation and Pilot Testing of the Brief Addiction Monitor in the VA Boston Healthcare System I was the site leader for this national VA effort; pilot tested and implemented the infrastructure for this measure as part of the national phase 1 rollout. This measure is now being used in outpatient and residential settings, and has improved the quality and standardization of assessment within substance abuse treatment programs in VA Boston. o Implementation of Contingency Management intervention for substance use disorders in the VA Boston Healthcare System I was the site leader for this national VA effort; pilot testing and developing procedures for implementing evidencebased contingency management interventions into substance abuse treatment clinics. This project has the capacity to improve patient care by establishing the capacity to provide this type of intervention locally. Program evaluation and clinical research efforts are ongoing.
