ATTENTION: Your child will be given a username and password for an online version of the social studies
book. This can be used if your child did not bring home his or her book. I would encourage you to ask your
child for this just in case they lose it or forget it at school.

Materials Needed: Notebook, Folder or Binder, Pencil, Social Studies Book.
 If you forget your materials three times, it will result in a detention.
 All assignments will need to be completed in PENCIL.
 You will need your book every day unless I specify otherwise.
Classroom Policies:
 Come to class prepared.
 RESPECT yourself, teachers, classmates, staff, and property.
 Use appropriate behavior.
 Raise your hand.
 Stay seated unless you have permission to get up.
 You must have a signed pass to leave the room and if arriving late.
 If absent, you have one day for each day absent to make up the missing assignment.
Consequences:
 Verbal warning or seat change.
 Parent Contact
 Detention
 Office referral
 Other intervention as deemed necessary.
Grading: The district grading scale will be used.
 Cheating will earn you a zero.
 You may NOT makeup work for credit if your absence was unexcused.
Assignments:
 There will be assignments, tests, quizzes, and projects.
 Each paper should be labeled with your Name, Date, Hour, and Assignment.
 If I cannot read your writing, it will be marked wrong.
Curriculum:
– The Turbulent Decades (1919-1945), The 1920’s, The Great Depression, and WWII.
– WWII cont., Holocaust Study, The Cold War, The Korean War and the Red Scare.
– Events from 1950-Present, Vietnam War, The Kennedy Assassination, Terrorism, Iraq War
– US Constitution, Famous Court Decisions, Illinois Constitution, Current Events
**Note: Current events will be covered throughout the year including the election.
NOTE: The Wood River-Hartford School District 15 handbook will be used along with this syllabus.
