Dansehallerne can remain in the Carlsberg City District

Press release / Copenhagen June 30th 2016 Dansehallerne can remain in the Carlsberg City District The development company Carlsberg Byen P/S and Dansehallerne have together created the frame to secure that Dansehallerne can remain in the Carlsberg City District. Dansehallerne is one of Northern Europe´s largest forums for contemporary dance and has been housed in a temporary lease at Carlsberg´s old mineral water factory in the Carlsberg City District. The building is going to be converted to homes, offices and shops. Therefore an agreement has been made between the Carlsberg City District and Dansehallerne to secure that Dansehallerne can stay in the Carlsberg City District with a new location in the listed building Kedelhallen. About the new location of Dansehallerne in the Carlsberg City District the chairman of Carlsberg Byens P/S, Henrik Heideby says: “The Carlsberg City District is an incredibly exiting development project with many historical roots of which Kedelhallen is a good example. Dansehallerne entering the building is a brilliant way to tie the area´s history and attachment to the cultural life to the modern city district.” Jens Nyhus, the Chief Executive of the Carlsberg City District elaborates on this: ”We are very pleased that we together with Dansehallerne have made it possible for Dansehallerne to remain in the Carlsberg City District. Dansehallerne are significantly contributing to create a vibrant and diverse city district where there is lively movement both in and between the buildings – a city district where you want to live, work and hang out.” Also at Dansehallerne we are very pleased that the dance environment can stay in the Carlsberg City District. The director of Dansehallerne, Efva Lilja, says: “We were among one of the first cultural institutions that moved to the Carlsberg City District and we feel very much as part of the DNA of the district. Therefore we have done much to explore ways to find a permanent location here in collaboration with the Carlsberg City District. It is wonderful that we have succeeded and it is even better that it is the beautiful and quite magnificent building, Kedelhallen, which will be the frame for our future work. We look very much forward to welcoming everyone inside.” About Kedelhallen Kedelhallen is one of the strongest contemporary examples of functional industrial architecture. Kedelhallen is approximately 4.500 square meters spread out on two floors with the entrance at the ground level and a highceilinged arch hall on the second floor. The building will, besides Dansehallerne, also have shops, a restaurant and a café on the ground floor. About Dansehallerne Dansehallerne is a national platform and a leading institution for new choreographic arts. Dansehallerne conducts profiled programming at a high international level, characterized by frontline competence within innovative forms of production and presentation, appealing to a wide and diverse public. Dansehallerne is an independent institution with an operating grant from the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Copenhagen. Dansehallerne is located in central Copenhagen with a small branch in Aarhus. Based on these two cities Dansehallerne have activities throughout the country. About the Carlsberg City District The historic brewery site -‐ centrally located between Vesterbro, Valby and Frederiksberg -‐ will within the next eight to ten years be turned into a new neighbourhood in Copenhagen. Here modern architecture will be interwoven with the area´s many beautiful, worthy and listed buildings. 25 open city spaces creates a frame for urban life, where there will be lively movement inside and between the buildings and a mix of homes, shops, cafes, offices and educational and cultural institutions that together will create a diverse and vibrant city district. The public transport to and from the area is ensured through a new and modern S-‐train station, the Carlsberg Station opening on July 3rd 2016. A complex network of bike paths will offer fast and secure connections for the cyclists, while also thinking of motorists with good parking options in underground parking areas.
