3.GREEN GRAPES

ALERT!
Demand exceeds supply, very low
volume is available to ship.
4.ASPARAGUS
Sizing and supply issues are coupled
with strong demand.
5.AVOCADO
asparagus
Expect limited supplies due to very
warm temps and the end of the
season in Obregon. Production from
Baja remains light; expect quality
to be fair to good with inconsistent
sizing. WA supplies will not be able to
handle the demand, and Peruvian
supplies remain light with smaller sizing, but quality is improving.
avocados
Markets continue to tighten for
Cinco de Mayo, and we expect
continued higher pricing and lower
volumes afterward. The three key
reasons: fewer supplies from Mexico,
a 50% reduction in volume from
CA, and growers leaving fruit on
the trees. Fruit quality is good, with
pockets of older fruit.
beans, green
As we transition into GA, availability
continues to be tight but improving;
TX and FL are still producing. Quality is becoming inconsistent, as is
expected during transition.
berries–black, blue,
& raspberry
Markets are settling. Blueberries:
Supply is mostly domestic with good
demand, steady quality.
Blackberries & Raspberries: Supply
remains mostly from Mexico, with
weakened texture due to rain.
berries–strawberry
Markets are settling. Quality is fair
to good; sizing is varied, occasional
white shoulders, insect damage, and
bruising are noted due to a warm
stretch of weather.
broccoli &
cauliflower
Broccoli: Quality is fair to good with
branchiness, irregular growth, and
brown bead showing up as availability
is improved. Cauliflower: Markets are
moving back up; quality is fair to very
good with bruising, off-cream color,
and occasional riciness exhibited.
celery
Markets remain active and are a
concern. Quality is fair and noting
discoloration, cracking, and twisting,
with reports of pith.
citrus
Lemons: Good quality, the harvest
is increasing with mostly larger sizes.
Limes: Quality is good with mostly
smaller sizing (higher count) new
crop fruit. Oranges: Quality is good
with small counts very tight.
The market is active and supplies
are tight.
Outlook
WEST COAST
This past weekend and first half of
this week started out warm (80 F° +),
becoming cooler for remainder of
the week with a chance of rain this
weekend.
MEXICO
Weather system No. 45 is bringing
storms and active weather to the
eastern coast of Mexico from Nuevo
Leon, and Tamaulipas south to Puebla
Veracrus and Oaxaca.
EAST COAST
We are into our typical warm spring
seasonal weather pattern for FL with a
slight cool down for southern GA into
next week.

grapes
ALERT!
Green grapes: Chilean fruit is done;
there are a few shippers repacking
some fruit to make good arrivals, product is scarce this week.
Mexico will start in a light way the
week of May 8th, better volume
will be the week of May 15th, with
Coachella starting as well. Red
seedless: Grapes remain nice
without repacking, with only occasional lot-specific issues.
lettuce
Markets have eased overall. Iceberg: Quality is good with mildew,
puffy framed lettuce, mechanical
damage, growth crack, and insect
pressure the top concerns. Weights
range. Leaf: Markets have eased.
Quality is fair with issues/defects
noted such as insects, discoloration, and fringe burn from the
warm stretch of weather. Romaine:
Markets have eased. Quality is fair
with issues/defects noted such as to
twisting, insects, and burn from the
warm stretch of weather. Romaine
Hearts still trending 3/4 open.
melons
We are in the home stretch of the
import melon crop with declining
availability over the next 2 weeks,
and very hit/miss on sizes. Fruit
making entry is still available in different profiles from 9ct–12ct, and
fewer on the 15ct, with virtually
nothing smaller. Honeydews as
well, a decline in supplies is leading
into our domestic AZ crop, which is
less than 2 weeks away.
Please Distribute to:
Plenty of green pepper supplies
from FL, especially Choice; quality is very good and all sizes are
available. Green bell peppers in
Coachella are peaking on Jumbo
and Extra-large sizes; quality is very
nice. It will be about two weeks
before they start with colored bell
peppers.
potatoes
Burbanks are the primary variety
but running small; Norkotahs are
limited and waning. Quality issues remain in some lots but are
showing improvement. The market
has been strong on large sizes
and looks to continue to edge up
gradually.
squash
There is plenty of squash throughout FL, southern GA, and Mexico,
with good quality reported from all
growing areas.
tomatoes–cherry
& grape
The cherry market remains steady
with good quality. Grapes ease as
the FL supply increases. Availability should remain steady through
the north FL crops starting in May.
Overall, markets ease with good
supply.
tomatoes–roma
& round
Supply remains steady; demand increases across the board will push
the market. Quality is fairly good in
all regions.

DECREASING
Choice is readily available, but
Fancy remains very limited.
The market outlook is steady to
lower. Good volume/quality from
CA; ID is done; WA is waning and
volume will be declining. TX volume is on the decline. NM will start
late-May with good quality and
volume.
