Can You Help Me NOW? Learning What, When, and How to Best Help Your Parents as They Age With the holidays just around the corner and families coming together, learn how to start a conversation about successful aging and lay the groundwork to cover such emotional topics as driving, finances, downsizing/moving, caregiver support and final arrangements. Join the Sherborn and Dover Councils on Aging for a free two-part series on helping your parents (and yourself) as you navigate the challenges of growing older. Both programs will begin at 7 pm and will be held at the Dover Sherborn Middle School Library. Thursday, November 4: When and How to start talking to your parents about the future. Laurie Bender, RN, MA will talk about your new role as caregiver for your parents and how to get the conversation started about “the days ahead” before you have to make decisions in crisis mode. Learn how to engage both your parents and your siblings so your parents’ needs and wishes are addressed and carried out, and how to defuse tense situations and work through adult sibling rivalry. The second program, on Thursday, November 18, will be a Panel of “Aging Experts”, who will cover a variety of topics from living will, power of attorney and health care proxy to housing options and what type of supportive services can help maintain a senior’s independence in the community.
