good when Pete the Cat comes to ERPL to meet and take pictures with all of his groovy friends and
fans. Sing rockin’ songs, hear far-out stories, make crafts and enjoy some snacks.
WKAR is holding a Literacy Celebration on Sunday, March 19th from 1:00 to 3:30. Join WKAR for an
interactive stage show, children’s activities, storytelling, and meet your favorite storybook
characters including Arnie the Doughnut, Biscuit the Dog, Cookie Mouse and Pete the Cat. One
Free book per family while supplies last. Presented by Early Childhood Literacy Coalition. WKAR is
located at 819 Abbot Road in East Lansing.
Be sure to ask your child(ren) what time they did “Pop It, Drop It and Read” this week.
As we are all aware The Young Americans are coming to Island City Academy, March 5th, 6th and
7th. The Young Americans are a group of young adults that will come in and teach our students
song, dance, and performing. This is an amazing opportunity that our students will experience.
Students will be at the V.F.W. Home for all three days of school. The address for the V.F.W. Home is
3573 S. Waverly Road. We will be in the Community Center building which is located at the back of
the main entrance. The building has a large blue roof on it.. The schedule will be as follows:
•
Sunday, March 5th: 1:30 to 6:00
•
Monday, March 6th: 7:45/8:00 to 3:30
•
Tuesday, March 7th: 9:00 to 3:30 then 5:30-8:00
If your student rides Eatran to school, please remember to contact them and make the
arrangements. Eatran knows of the changes but needs each family to call to confirm rides to and
from the V.F.W. Home. Morning and afternoon Latch Key services will be available Monday and
morning Latch Key services will be available Tuesday for students who utilize Latch key weekly.
Latch Key will open at 6:45 both days and the school will transport students to the V.F.W. Home for
The Young Americans.
Students will still be able to order hot lunch for Monday and Tuesday or bring their own lunch.
Lunch for next week is as follows:
•
Monday, 3/6: Little Caesars Pizza, beef-a-roni or peanut butter & jelly
•
Tuesday, 3/7: Chicken drummies, bosco sticks or peanut butter & jelly
•
Thursday, 3/8: Ham sub or peanut butter & jelly
•
Friday, 3/9: Turkey sub, peanut butter & jelly or Friday fundraiser pizza slices
There will be no salad bar this week of school. STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING THEIR LUNCH
TICKETS ON MONDAY TO THE V.F.W. HOME. Please do not have your student bring their planners
or any folders to the V.F.W. Home.
Please be sure to send your child(ren) with a snack and water bottle each day. Students will not
need to be in dress code for the three days. Students can wear gym shorts, jeans (without holes),
jogging pants (no leggings) and school appropriate t-shirt (no tank tops please).
Just a reminder, attendance will be taken each day and are considered school days. If we do not get
75% attendance each day we will have to make the days up in June.
