Chief Minister Selvi Dr. J Jayalalithaa Kings Schools paid its deepest condolence to the former Chief Minister, Selvi J Jayalalithaa, who left her last breath on 5th December due to a cardiac arrest. Kings School arranged for a special assembly, where two students – Vathana, of Std XI C & Nijas Saravanan, Std XI A 2 gave a speech on the former Chief Minister Selvi J Jayalalithaa. The speech briefed her achievements in political life and work for the welfare of the people of Tamilnadu. A bereavement poem was read by Mrs. Krishnakumari in Tamil, which reflected her devotion and commitment towards the State. A meaningful heart touching song was sung by Christina Frederick, Sharon Adaikallam, Ranet Sushmitha, from std IX. Floral tributes were presented by students and staff to the iconic leader. In CBSE School, Dinesh Surya and Jaisy Roffina, Class 8 gave a speech on her inspiring qualities and achievements. The National flag was half- mast positioned as a sign of mourning the loss of the beloved Chief Minister. Live Demo on fire and safety awareness conducted The fire and rescue department of Vallioor conducted a live demo on fire and safety management programme on24th October in our playground. Students from Standard 1 to 12th and CBSE witnessed the programme. The fire officer Mr. Immanuel elaborated the students, the services rendered by the fire department and how to keep oneself away from fire. The demo consisted of various chemicals used to extinguish natural and artificial fire, first aid to be given to the person who is afflicted with fire, and how to help a person who is injured in an accident. They also demonstrated how to handle fire crackers, the dress to be worn and alerted the students against fire, and do’s and don’ts during an accident. The innovative session lasted for an hour that enlighted light among the students. Boarders Picnic to Thirparappu and Hanging Bridge It was on 16th October that a batch of 63 boarders, three teachers and three support staff went on a picnic to Thirparappu Falls. It was a wonderful day. The Boarders sang songs, debated and filled the air with happiness. All reached the falls around 11.00 AM and had dipped themselves in the silver cascade. The sun played hide and seek and the weather was pleasing. After bathing all had their lunch there and moved to Mathoor’s hanging bridge which is Asia’s highest hanging bridge, constructed when technology was not so advanced as present. On strolling on the hanging bridge all enjoyed the beauty of Nature. After visiting the bridge all went to padmanathapuram palace. All were amazed on seeing the Architecture of the palace, statues and museum and returned to school at 6.30 P.M. Dr. Abdul Kalam’s BirthDay Celebrated On the eve of Dr. Kalam’s Birth Anniversary on 14th October Std VI- ‘A’ Students hosted a special assembly. They presented Dr. Kalam’s inspiring quotes. Kalam’s golden words conveyed messages which are useful to one’s day to day life. NATIONAL UNITY DAY OBSERVED Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) was introduced by the Government of India and it was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi in 2014. Kings School Celebrated the Birth Anniversary of Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 31st October, 2016 as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day). The intent was to pay tribute to Vallabhbhai Patel, who was an instrumental in making India united. A special assembly was organised and all the students and teachers took Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge. 2 Kings Newsletter 2016 Staff Development PROGRAMME An orientation on creative learning was conducted by Mrs. Jyothi Swaroop on 8th Oct 2016. She spoke about collaborative learning, creative learning, communication skill and critical thinking. She also briefed 3 important points which is useful for the children to think and learn easily. She also conducted few informative games which were funfilled and interesting and made the day very useful. Another orientation program for Teachers was held on 12th Nov 2016 in Burden Centre between 11.00 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. Our Principal Mr. Frederick Sam was the Resource Person. And the topic for orientation was “HOW TO BE A GREAT TEACHER”. The character qualities of great teachers were vividly discussed. Enthusiasm, body language, potential and creativity, decision making and Charming personality are the qualities that make a great teacher. A video clipping on the same topic was also displayed. The section was short and sweet and it was a real situational presentation. Teachers of K.G, Primary, Middle and Senior School enthusiastically took part in it. A self-answer-sheet assessed the standard of each teacher. Field Trips Students of 9th and 10th made a field trip to Tirunelveli on 4th and 5th November to visit Numismatics and the Paleographic exhibition at KRR Mahal Tirunelveli. Students participated enthusiastically and rejuvenated themselves in the trip. They witnessed the large scale of display of Megalithic pottery, philately (stamp collection), Numismatics (copper, silver), the weight system, Paleography, Development of telecommunication, and Importance of blood transfusion. Students witnessed the display of illuminated master pieces of art that tells the exciting of mankind through the relics of past ages. Sculpture, painting, manuscripts, wood carvings, bronzes, costumes, utensils and richer collection of Numismatics are of historical value. After visiting the exhibition students were taken to district science centre where they got solution to their unsolved problems. Kings Newsletter 2016 3 CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATIONS Children’s Day was celebrated on 14th November in A.K. Hall. Students of standard I to XII and all the teachers assembled in the A.K. Hall, dressed in multicolour costumes which really coloured the function. The celebration started at 9.30. A.M. Senior School teachers conducted the assembly. Teachers entertained the students with a variety of cultural programmes. Middle school teachers sang and primary School teachers danced for Music. Verse Reading in Tamil and Mimicry by senior teachers was also a part of the schedule. Back voice artists of school day was also appeared on the stage. Kings Newsletter 2016 5 The Hindu Young World Painting Competition The Hindu Young World painting competition was held on Sunday, 11th December at St. Francis Xavier Engineering College, Tirunelveli for the three districts - Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi. The contest was held in two categories of Junior students of std 4 – 6, and for Senior Students of Std 7 – 9. Students of both category showed their creativity at the finals. Jemsly Abhi Sharon of std VII emerged and bagged second place in senior category and Dharun from Std VII won the consolation prize in senior category. Ansly Jebi Sharon is awarded with a certificate of appreciation and cash worth Rs. 2000/-. And Dharun is awarded a certificate & consolation medal. Jermsy Abesha, Class 6 (CBSE) was awarded with a consolation certificate and trophy. Inter School Carol Fest Congratulations to all the winners and An Inter School Carol Fest Ring O Bells’ at State Level was organised by participants. The Senior and Junior choir was St Michael Matriculation School, Madurai on 3rd December for School trained by our Music teacher, Mr Wilfred. students. On 18th December, a Carol Competition was conducted by Nijam TV, Vallioor, whereby the Kings Juniors and Seniors team participated and won the first place. Sixteen students from CBSE School participated and won a special prize. Growing up with exploring A child can experience the satisfaction by observation. In order to learn the germination of seed the students of I B were asked to sow the seed in a pot. They sowed the seed, watered it regularly. They observed the seed grew into a sapling. When it grew into a sapling they explained the process of germination of seeds. 6 Kings Newsletter 2016 WORLD DIABETES DAY Drawing Competition District Science Centre, Tirunelveli organised Drawing Competition on 13th November 2016 on World Diabetes Day. The students from Std VI to XI took part in it. The topics given were Healthy Food and Unhealthy Food for Std VI to VIII and Modern Life Style for Std IX to XI. (III-B). 8 Kings Newsletter 2016 EVENTS IN KINDERGARTEN Thirukkural Recitation Competition Colour Day Celebrations Thirukkural Competition was held on 14th Oct 2016, and around 65 UKG children participated in this competition. The topic given to them was “Panbudaimai”. Mrs.KrishnaKumari (Tamil Teacher – Senior Block) and Mrs. Vijitha (Tamil Teacher – Middle Block) were the judges for this competition. The performance of the children made all the judges and the teachers speechless. The participants spoke with confidence and their friends Orange Day encouraged The tiny tots of kindergarten celebrated orange day them by on Friday, 28th October 2016. Given a prior notice the clapping their children came in orange coloured dress. In the special hands. assembly the children quoted few lines about the orange colour things and a sweet song on orange colour was sung by the children. Prizes were distributed by Uncle Colin for Field Trip the winners of Thirukkural competition. Children eagerly took part in the orange day activity and were able to A field trip to Kanyakumari Acquarium and identify Orange colour at the end of the celebration. Vattakkotai fort was arranged for the UKG students on 24th October. 93 students went for the field trip. The trip started at 10.00 a.m. The children enjoyed the trip by talking and wondering about the things they saw on the road. After reaching Kanyakumari the children were taken to the acquarium where they saw fishes of various shapes, sizes and colours. They were very excited and surprised to see this variety of fishes. Then the children were taken to the bridge from where they saw the sea, Thiruvalluvar statue and few fishing boats. A short while later they were taken to the Vattakkotai fort where they had their lunch and played games and saw Pink Day the beautiful sea. They enjoyed each and every moment in Students of KG celebrated pink day on 25th the field trip. Nov 2016. Students were fascinated when they saw the area decorated by pink colour balloons. Students also dressed up in pink colour. A special assembly was conducted where students talked about the pink colour objects and sang a melodious pink day song. It was fun and all were excited when students did the pink colour butterfly activity. The children were able to identify pink colour and took home the beautiful memories of this celebration. Kings Newsletter 2016 9 Fancy Dress Competition Pre KG Fancy dress: Fancy dress competition for Pre-KG students was held on 4th November 2016. The theme for the day was about birds. Students were judged on the following criteria i.e style, action, costume and presentation. It was a visual treat to see the tiny tots performing on the stage with confidence. Children enjoyed participating and dressing like parrots, peacocks, penguins, swan etc. Thanks to the Parents for their support. It was a mesmerizing event. LKG Fancy dress: A grand and gorgeous fancy dress competition was held on 15th November 2016 for the LKG students. The theme for the day was characters from Ramayana and Mahabharata. The students were dressed up like Krishna, Sita, Ravana etc. It was so surprising to see the students gesture and their confidence in walk and talk on the diaz. The students were encouraged by their parents, teachers and their friends and they went home happily with their parents at the end of this Fancy Dress Competition. Children’s Day Celebration at kindergarten Sports Day Sports day competition took place on 30th Nov 2016. Parents were invited to see their wards participation in sports events. The students were encouraged by their parents and teachers and they gave their best in all the events. The events closed with a prize giving ceremony. Parents appreciated and were given opportunities to give prizes to the winners. The highlight of this sports day is that every child got a prize. The winners were awarded a medal & certificate and the runners with a consolation prize. The children were very excited and happy while receiving the prizes. The sports day ended with a smile and satisfaction on each and every child and parents heart. It was really a day of great joy for all. 10 Kings Newsletter 2016 CAT PROJECT Our School conducted CAT PROJECT for Scout /Guides /JRC children on 15th November 2016. 55 Students and 6 Teachers had the privilege of visiting St. Antony’s KarunaiIllam, Nagercoil, an Orphanage home which consists of 155 children. Our children helped them by giving clothes and cash. They engaged those children with games, songs and also spent their valuable time with small kids by sharing their views with each other. The objective of this project is to create helping tendency among them and how to mingle with the people in the society. Children learnt a lot and spent the day usefully. Wheelchair Basketball SPORTS NEWS Kings School student Master. S. Jeya Selvan of Std VIII has been selected to represent under 23 India team in wheelchair Basketball in the World Championship AOZ (Asian-Pacific) qualifying round in Bangkok on 21st to 28th January, 2017. Swimming Divisional swimming competition was held at Anna Stadium, Tirunelveli on 10th November. Kings School totally got 2 Gold, 9 Silver and 4 Bronze. They are the runners in Immanuel Arasar Basketball Trophy organised by Immanuel Arasar College, Marthandam. State Non-Medalist Age Group Aquatic Championship, 2016 The Vikasa Swimming Pool, Sayapuram - Tuticorin conducted the State Non-Medalist competition. Kings Newsletter 2016 Judo CM Trophy District Chief Minister trophy Judo competition was held at Anna Stadium on 27th November 2016. Four students of Kings school participated. Aloysious Roger of class XI got First place in 60-66 weight category and Maharajan of class XI also got first place in 66-72 weight category. Both of them have been selected to participate in the state level CM trophy. Ajay Krishna of class X got second place in 60-66 weight category and Jaya Prakash got third place in 60-66 weight category. Judo Divisional Competition Judo Divisional competition was held at Kamaraj School, Hockey Our Senior Hockey team and Super senior Hockey team participated divisional games held at Lakshmi mills Polytechnic College, Kovilpatti. Kings Newsletter 2016 15 Kung Fu Competition Eleven of our students from different classes went to Monsurya, Kung Fu temple, to participate in Kung Fu competition on 27 October. Our students competed excellently well and brought laurels to our school. Delbert (VII), Manoth (VI A) and Faaris (III B) secured gold medals in their category. Drizzle (VII), Zain (VII), Lokesh (V), Vasavan (IV B), Muthu Ganesh (IV A), Akash (III B) and Antonio Rayan (III B) won silver medals. Tirunelveli District Association Chess Competition A district level open competition for chess was conducted by Tirunelveli District Association. Six students took part and NIjas Nahas of class 8 secured sixth place in open category. Parent Open Day We meet parents regularly to ensure the academic development of the students. Parent Open day was held on 8th October. Most of the parents met the teachers and analyzed their ward’s performance. Visit to Science Exhibition A Science exhibition was organised for school students by Dr. Sivanthi Adithanar Engineering College, Tiruchendur on October 18. They have understood that winning is not the real goal of the competition, whereas integral development is the ultimate goal of the competitions.
