Friendly Connections From the Roseville Public Library Volume 12, Issue 2 May — August 2017 Building a Better World @ the Library One Person, One Program and One Book at a Time As Library employees and advocates we know that you can “Build a Better World @ the Library,” the state-wide theme of the 2017 summer reading program beginning June 16. Each time we see a parent reading to a daughter or son in the library or a grandparent helping a grandchild select books, we see a better world being built. We see it when a librarian is assisting a man or woman in using the Internet or creating an email account or downloading an eBook or music for the first time. We also see it when an adult who would normally have spent the evening alone in front of the television attends a library program and interacts with other people. I am excited that the Library is hosting its first outdoor family summer event, “Live! on the Plaza.” Guy Louis of Chautauqua Express will sing, play musical instruments and get everyone up and dancing on the Plaza in front of City Hall and the Library, possibly even the Rosebuds. I hope this becomes a series of outdoor family events each summer. I also hope that we have one of our warm, clear, beautiful Michigan summer evenings for this first concert however the library auditorium is a great rain location. Please visit YOUR Library this summer so that we can Build a Better World @ the Library together. Jackie Harvey, Library Director Friends of the Roseville Public Library Annual Membership Meeting Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 7:00 PM All are welcome to attend the Friends Annual Meeting and Election of Officers. Guy will actively engage the young people the entire show, while playing music that will delight all ages. Patricia Chownyk, Trustee Bring your own chairs and blankets and we will provide some treats while you enjoy the show! ALLDATA Auto Repair The Roseville Public Library offers a wonderful automotive repair database called ALLDATA, which can be accessed from the library. It provides the most current and complete resource for automotive repairs. This resource allows you to find the repair information you need more quickly than browsing several repair manuals. Just input your VIN number or your vehicle year, make, model, and engine into this database to quickly bring up information on maintenance, system and component replacement, and service precautions on your specific vehicle. Ask a librarian to show you how to use this database today. Donations are currently being accepted for the upcoming used book sale in October. Please pack your donations in non-returnable bags or boxes and bring them directly to the Circulation Desk. We ask that you do not put donations in our book drops. The Roseville Public Library now offers Wireless printing! Simply provide your library card or email address to the staff at the Circulation Desk to retrieve your document(s) for a small fee. New to mobile printing? Our knowledgeable librarians are ready to help! Head over to the Information Desk for further assistance. As of March 2017, we no longer accept personal checks as a form of payment. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Growing the Roseville History Archive Recently, we have received a few surprise donations. The first donation of Erin Township-related documents came from Garden City Presbyterian Church. A deceased congregant left papers pertaining to land purchases, chattel mortgage, war pensions and employment. The documents span 1880’s – 1920’s. A second donation of 1930’s greeting cards came from an anonymous donor. We are currently working on the genealogy of both parties to lengthen the story behind the donations. If you have a potential donation of family documents, photos, school yearbooks or other Roseville-related photos or documents, we’d like to hear from you.
