Nice Work
Music by George Gershwin, Lyrics by Ira Gershwin, Book by Joe DiPietro
Coming to this theatre for its premiere is a new musical comedy which recently played
on Broadway, starring Matthew Broderick, and is currently touring the country. Get
ready for this 1920’s feel-good musical, complete with great dance numbers, beautiful costumes and an unlikely love story between a wealthy playboy and a rough and
tumble lady bootlegger. This lighthearted crowd-pleaser is set against the backdrop of
classic, Gershwin hits like, “Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off”, “Someone To Watch
Over Me”, “Fascinating Rhythm”, “Lady Be Good” and the title song. This sparkling
madcap tale combines laughter, romance and high-stepping Broadway magic for your
enjoyment.
“Dames At Sea”. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mar./April 2016
Music by Jim Wise, Book and Lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller
Returning to this theatre is an award-winning musical comedy that brought stardom
to Bernadette Peters in the 1968 Broadway production. In 1971 it was made into a
movie starring Ann Margaret and later enjoyed two successful New York revivals. This
show bursts with nostalgia of the 1930’s Busby Berkeley musicals which feature rousing tap dancing, spectacular, joyful songs and a boatload of laughs. The story relates
how a song-and-dance sailor saves a Broadway show and helps a hometown girl find
stardom and love. The memorable score includes “Broadway Baby”, “Good Times Are
Here To Stay”, “It’s You”, “Singapore Sue”, “Choo-Choo Honeymoon” and the title
song. This glittering musical extravaganza has everything you need for an unforgettable time at the theater.
“Footloose, The Musical”. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . July 2016
Music by Tim Snow, Book and Lyrics by Dean Pitchard
Completing our season is another premiere which is based on the 1984 movie of the
same name. At that time, it was considered one of the most explosive and popular
contemporary movies and has now burst onto the live stage as a full-fledged musical.
It was nominated for a Tony award for its score and the soundtrack album reached #1
on the Billboard Hit List and sold over 15 million copies. It opened on Broadway in
1998 and after a successful run, it went on a National Tour in the US and England.
The 1984 film version starred Kevin Bacon, Chris Penn and Sarah Jessica Parker and
was nominated for two Academy Awards. This is a story about a boy who grew up
near Chicago who loved going to the school dances and then moving to a small, sleepy
conservative town which has no dancing. His efforts to convince the town elders to
allow the dances creates a musical that is sassy, energetic, crackling, funny, sad and
rocking with memorable songs like “On Any Sunday”, “Let’s Make Believe We’re In
Love”, “I’m Free” and the title song.
